i often see how you sob over what you destroy. how you want to stop and just worship, and you do stop, and then a moment later you are at it again with a knife, like a surgeon.
adler let out a faint chuckle, shaking his head a bit.
“ you do more than enough, bell. you have no idea how much you and i have truly accomplished together. you’re one of a kind, bell. ”
for a moment, bell just stares silently at adler. it's nice to see his eyes.
“thank you. you're always here for me.. but i feel like i don't do much for you.”
“ you do. it’s not your fault. you’ve sustained head trauma in the past, but i’ve been helping you through it. especially when it gets like this. ”
adler let his hand squeeze bell’s back and nodded slowly.
“i... i remember, now,”
he said softly, giving adler's hand a slight squeeze. just to be sure he's still there. really there.
“does this... do i do this a lot?” that's one thing he never remembered. he wondered what was wrong with his memory, sometimes.
adler let his hand slowly close around bell’s, careful yet firm. his thumb gave deliberate slow passes to aid in grounding the other. his eyes never left him, and seemingly refused to do so.
“ see ? i’m real. this is real. you are real, bell. ”
the world was so, very scary. it was a big place, one in which he felt so small.
but there adler was every time, helping him get back on his feet. he did tell bell he'd always protect him. and from where he stood, russell adler wasn't a liar. not to bell.
he would never.
out, palm right side up. it was a silent invitation, one that adler wasn’t rushing. this wouldn’t be the first to experience bell being like this.
it wouldn’t be the last but, adler was a patient man.
it might’ve been a flare up. a sudden burst in brain where memories fell in between the hard to reach places, as if it was right there.. but too far to grasp.
adler gave a bit of distance between them, but enough to see the very tremble in bell’s throat.
“ i know —
you must be confused. you might even be scared, but i’m here to tell you that you have nothing to be scared of. we’ve been close for years, bell. fought together, and i told you i’d always protect you. we protect each other, right ? ”
adler reached a slow hand —
˓ a faint grin slowed to his lips, letting out a scoffed chuckle. he pulled out a silver zippo lighter and flicked it to life, letting the flame catch to burn the other end of the cigarette. ˒
for a stubborn bastard like you ? consider it on the house.
[ a bloodied hand reaches over to take the cigarette and he holds it in one hand while the other fixes the tourniquet into place ( with the assistance of teeth ) ]
thanks . y'gonna invoice me for the smoke later ?
what is the last thing you remember ? ”
adler shifted, opting to lower himself to the ground with a quiet grunt from protesting joints.
“ take your time. i’m here with you. no one can hurt you here. ”
adler’s jaw clenched in a slow movement, his facial expression neutral despite the curious glint behind his aviators.
he raised a hand to remove them, letting his tired eyes rest on the other.
“ you’re in the safe house, bell. our safe house —
i have no doubt in that ; the state they’ll find you in will be very different than you think. by the end of this . . . you and i will be well acquainted. ”
“ i’m prepared for that. i know the status of a man in your power has, and yet . . ”
adler lowered the vial and began to prep one of the syringes.
“ Вам нравится музыка? Я заметил, что во время этих… сеансов она помогает мозгу заранее настроиться на спокойный лад. —
“Мои люди будут меня искать. Меня — а заодно и тебя — найдут, это лишь вопрос времени.”
he gives one last small tug on his straps.
“То, в каком состоянии меня обнаружат, определит твое наказание. Распоряжайся этой информацией как знаешь.”
Это позволяет сэкономить энергию, которая впоследствии заставит ваше тело перейти в режим «борьбы или бегства». ”
piercing the needle into the cap, he slowly began to pull the contents inside of the syringe.
“ if and when, because they’ll eventually come for you —
adler’s gaze dropped to the pile of bile, his eyes staring at it with an almost curious expression. it might’ve been a higher dose than planned for, but worked nonetheless.
he slipped his shades back on and stood before turning to a rolling tray. he opened a metal —
he set it down to tear open an alcohol pad to wipe it clean. slow. methodical, as adler seemed to carry himself.
“ Вся эта обидa . . . вся эта ненависть — я дам тебе шанс прояснить ситуацию. ”
adler glanced over his shoulder, holding the glass vial as the liquid sloshed —
