The moment Assan is addressed the griffon perks up, head tilted as he made his way to Lace’s side. He nuzzled against her, eager for the attention.
Davrin watched with a soft smile, taking the moment to think of the best story to tell.
“Well, when I was just starting out, —
It was the same for Lace, Davrin's steadfast reasoning and caring nature eased her mind, and his monster hunting stories always had her interest.
She smiled softly, nodding after he spoke.
"Silly when you first started out? Now I have to hear this!"
She giggles softly, her +
— I had a real stubborn streak. I thought I could handle things by myself, even as a teen. Then I got my ass handed to me by a wandering curiosity spirit and had to reassess.
You wouldn’t believe it! The spirit caught me in a trap I’d set for a Wyrmling that had strayed too —
— exhausted as he pressed their temples together, winding a piece of Athim’s hair around his finger.
“I can’t give you what you deserve, a long life with someone you care about. But I can give you all the love I have to give.”
There’s something warm that heats up inside his chest as Athim continues to kiss him, and he almost finds that he cannot keep up. So much love comes radiating off of Athim that he finds it blinding, slow to react.
Is he really worthy of so much love? Will he be, when he —
— inevitably passes at a young age?
He pushes those thoughts away, thoughts that forced him into relationships that never led to anything serious. Could he really be so selfish as to take Athim’s heart?
Perhaps a part of him already had.
“I’m glad you told me now,” he began, —
“I still make them, sometimes. It’s not the same — hands aren’t as steady as they used to be.”
He smiles, but his face still looks so sad. Since the blight set in his hands had started shaking.
His sword arm, his ability to whittle ...
“He’d like the treats.”
"It's not the same at the lighthouse.. I miss you and Lucanis' banter and I miss you making little wood carvings."
She moves to sit next to him and lean against him.
"Must be lonely out here, I'll try and visit as much as I can okay?
With good food and treats for Assan."
He gently nudges her arm, friendly in a way he hadn’t felt since … before he was infected with the Blight.
But it’s nice to see Assan excited again. Nice to not feel lonely.
“You got a point, can’t argue there. Missed your cooking a lot —“
A pause.
“We both missed you.”
She just hands Davrin the food before sitting down and feeding Assan the truffles.
"Why wouldn't I?
You are important to us, to me.
Besides I missed you..
And thought you'd need a warm meal."
She cuddles with Assan, giggling at his chirps and ocassional squawks.
If there was one person who could put his mind at ease there in the Lighthouse, it was Lace. Something as easy as a smile had him smiling right back, his worries for what was to come set to the side, at least for a little while.
“Got a lot of stories from my youth, but I don’t —
His tone and how he held himself showed Lace that she wasn't the only one with too much on their mind.
She softened her lips into a calm smile; the maker knows a smile does wonders.
"Hm, could you tell me a story from your youth? I can tell you one from mine.."

— know if you wanna hear stories from my old hunting days.”
Taking down monsters in the woods, saving families and other Dalish communities. It was a good life, just not the calling that was meant for Davrin.
“Things weren’t nearly as exciting as you might think, but they —
