Writing inspiration thread 1
In exactly a month, my MG Bringing Back Kay-Kay comes out in the UK. Ahead of it, I wanted to share some sources of inspiration that've sparked my imagination over the years.
Here are some unforgettable mysteries and adventures from my childhood.
We're #BathSpaProud of one of our MA Writing for Young People graduates, Mel Darbon who has been shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize Award 2024!

I couldn’t be more delighted to have been shortlisted for this wonderful award, not just for me as a writer, but for the voice it gives to people with learning disabilities. Thank you to the dedicated booksellers who work so hard to promote our books #WCBP24@waterstones 🙏🏻
This is just the best news! Mel is a wonderful human being and a hugely talented writer who’s giving a much needed voice to people with learning disabilities. Congratulations!! 🙌
Some books are books. Other books are little pieces of their author's heart. @DarbonMel put her heart out there, and I'm bursting with joy to see Maudie and Jake getting the love they deserve.
So proud of you, Mel. What an achievement x
It takes a village to publish a book.
Spotlighting those within the amazing writing community who helped make me an author - #BringingBackKayKay Out on 4th Apr.
Today's thread is about authors who also teach creative writing. Yes, the craft of creative writing can be learned!
Welcoming 2024 with this gorgeous cover of my debut MG, out in Apr. Mystery-adventure. Sibling love-story. Tribute to India. Celebration of poetry.

Thank you Tara Anand, @WalkerBooksUK
And @NizRite for my very first review
Want to see my BAFTA, my rejection letters, my Whizziwig puppet and other paraphernalia from my writing life? Then head to the British Library from this Friday, 24th November for an exhibition of my work. It runs until February next year. Enjoy! 😄
Had a lovely time wandering around Oxford with my new Golden Egg colleagues, pretending to be Lyra in His Dark Materials.
More of that kind of thing, please.
Above all it is gratitude I feel, as I share this news. To write for children is nothing but an absolute privilege and the purest of joys, esp. so in the current times. Thank you @WalkerBooksUK@skeetermeeter@Emdashing_@bookboyben@RachelLHamilton 🙏🏽
