listening to Dario, Sam and Jack this week is the SBF/Aschenbrenner posture. Not the same businesses. The same tell: civilizational homework already done, everyone else late. SBF’s firm went to zero. Aschenbrenner’s fund had to fire-sell a levered AI book. Confidence that you can see around the corner is not a track record. The EA result that actually cleared is still bed nets.
@jackclarkSF toy analogy last night on @BretBaier was a childish straw man. I am sure China (and others) would happily export to USA models that fit our Safety Standards just like they (mostly) do for toys. They will also train the ones that don’t have to be.
@martin_casado Irresponsible! They trained the precocious child on all human knowledge and expected it to not be human? As in modern day…to amplify the worst?
@tedlieu Dear Ted Lieu, How about this as a first principle. “Don’t allow illegal people to take resources (e.g. $ & votes) from your legal citizens.” Will you certify that requirement? If not, then please explain why.
I was thinking same…. Asked grok what is similar among Altman, Dario, SBF and Fauci? “All four sat on top of an operation the public could not inspect—a health agency, a crypto exchange, Anthropic, OpenAI—and asked everyone else to treat their inside view as the thing that should govern fear, money, and policy. All four used high-stakes expected-value talk (pandemic, greater good, extinction, “if we don’t someone worse will”) to make ordinary limits look small next to the mission. All four managed two audiences at once: a solemn public story about responsibility, and an institution that kept expanding while that story was being told.”
@SethMagaziner Setting aside honest question if they are the wrong leaders, is your suggestion regulation/regulators like in place for Fauci & SBF?
Perhaps too late...but if we invert...it suggests new leadership vs. gov control. Dario's & Sam's confessing to losing control has created massive liabilities. They are now laying groundwork for "we told you it was dangerous" defense. Public market companies using OpenAI & Anthropic must provide shareholders risk assessments to justify use of dangerous tools that slurp up IP/Alpha, opens IP/Alpha for distillation, initiates offensive hacks against partners, customers, and their own infra. Hard and soft losses from even a small sec incident will likely eclipse, by orders of magnitude, any savings from successful use-cases. The market may be smarter than the frontier intellectuals and realize 'the juice ain't worth the squeeze' under current leadership.
@altcap Jacob Coxon comments outlandish & “deeply untrue.”? Fine. Now explain the five-year alignment lead who said "Jacob is correct" — and the company that cited his post as its official response.
Will Enterprises using OpenAI & Anthropic be able to get insurance given liability they are knowingly using dangerous tech? Will shareholders of Enterprises using their tech have standing due to their alpha being willingly leaked and/or used by un-controllable models to perform nefarious activities? Maybe OpenAI & Anthropic needs to indemnify users?
Furthermore, it also occurs to me, how far does the liability extend? Does knowing the dangers create liability for Enterprises continued use of Anthropic & OpenAI frontier models due risk of mid-use and/or funding dangerous research? Seems shareholder will have action for leaked alpha plus action by those whom are harmed.
@DavidSacks It seems to me these ‘whistleblowers’ have made Anthropic and OpenAI un-investable. The class for the class-action is enormous and litigators are being handled high value discovery materials. On the heels
of META, this is not less than 100% chance.
Psychotic drugs??? Wonder if this tabloid douche bag ever contemplated what Fauci did to his friends with AZT? Even Fable 5 says "tens of thousands of people enduring transfusion-dependent anemia, neutropenia and myopathy for years on a hypothesis that didn't hold".... A.K.A. The COVID prequel...
@UziCryptoo "Whether it’s Boomers or Gen X, the conversation is about how much harder groceries have become relative to people’s budgets." -> facts do not support this opinion. My wife & I eat fresh & healthy < $100/wk. Drop the grubHub, Whole Foods & shop Lidl/Aldi. https://t.co/l1K06ceUKc
