250128 Doyoung's Instagram Story—his thoughts on his musical 'The Man Who Laughs' #DOYOUNG#도영
"Hello, this is Doyoung.
While performing today, I felt a strong desire to share my feelings with the audience who came to watch, so I wanted to write a few words. I think this is the first time I'm sharing my thoughts after joining the musical 'The Man Who Laughs'.
Having experienced my first musical during the COVID-19 period, today was the first time I encountered a Curtain Call Day. It was also my first time singing my musical numbers in a way that was presented to the audience without any additional time or editing. I always perform with a nervous heart, but today, I think I felt even more nervous because of that.
'The Man Who Laughs' made me realise how grateful I am for the role I've been given—almost overwhelmingly so. It constantly teaches me something, and I feel truly thankful for the opportunity to take the lead in performing its musical numbers.
These moments truly feel like a dream.
I know very well that not only I but also those around me, and many others, have wondered whether I would be able to pull this off successfully. Because of that, I was filled with an immense desire to do really, really well. Of course, I can't say that my acting and singing are flawless enough to declare, "I'm doing an amazing job!" But with each performance, I strive to improve, even if only a little, by making efforts and changes that only I might notice.
Before every performance, I always pray. I ask that the Gwynplaine I portray is delivered well to the audience, without any disruptions from my small mistakes or obstacles. I sincerely hope that my acting and singing reach the audience smoothly, without any awkwardness or discomfort.
As I approach the halfway mark, the promise I can make is this: I will continue to improve little by little and show a better version of myself.
To those who have already met Doyoung's Gwynplaine and those who will meet him in the future, I will do my best. With that, I'll wrap up my thoughts for today.
P.S. These days, colds seem unavoidable no matter how hard we try to dodge them, so please take care! And to those who came to watch even during the holidays, I sincerely thank you once again."
since we're bringing up nice anecdotes about doyoung, here's one from 2022:
"i've worked in the industry from 2016 to 2021 and i've now become a czennie thanks to doyoung-nim. he is really well-mannered and above all, he's really very considerate to others. after the performances were over, he'd gather the members' mics. instead of just handing them over like that, he'd turn them off one by one. and if the cords were tangled, he'd untangle them.
he is a person who never forgets to say thank you, so there were a lot of rumours about how he was a good person.
when a new staff member made a mistake during MAMA 2020, they got a lot of attention because it was a year-end performance and everyone was very sensitive. they were scolded but doyoung-nim came out and settled everything so there were rumours back then on how he was very kind.
he'd also stay behind after pre-recordings, and there were a lot of performances which became better because he gave suggestions on what he wanted.
another time, as it was very dark backstage, a male staff member accidentally stepped on doyoung's foot and he was very surprised and flustered, but he apologised and said that he was alright, so (the staff member) was really grateful.
the reason why doyoung-nim keeps getting love calls from broadcasting stations is of course because while his image is great, he also has sense (wit + perception), and is quick-witted. above all, while he is great at speaking wittily, i think it also has to do with his reputation among the staff members. i really wanted to tell you all that you are liking a really good person."
the original writer of the musical ‘the man who laughs’ went to watch doyoung’s show today and told doyoung that they think he’ll have a good career (in musicals) 🥹
