I LOVE this take. For pre-seed, this is pretty much the only way. I led a few very early-stage deals in niches that lacked narrative and hype and some of them turned out to be absolutely amazing a few years later.
However, I also know how difficult times got for them, how close they were to closing shop completely and how lucky they were a few times. Hard work goes without saying.
Luck at pre-seed level is ever-present as a combo of solid founders, good timing, the wider market, getting a narrative push when least expected - each of these points completely unproven at pre-seed stage. And this is just for a single project in a single niche. The net has to be much wider to let the 'luck' play out.
out of the few hundred thousand people trading on fomo the last 90 days, only 226 made more than $10K so far.
and once you strip out all the KOLs and insiders from those 226, you’re probably left with a handful of regular people.
so unlikely that this ends up being you as an average Joe.
social trading is an amazing concept and fomo is an amazing app. but as long as we keep turning it into a casino, there will always be a house.
@vibhu Is you think adding "appealing mainstream" changes anything, I really don't think it does. If there's something else, then please do explain as I'm far from the only one who (mis)understood it like this.
Ok, let's go that way. Still disagree with a lot, but let's take that at face value.

- Solana 24H REV (so total, not just memes) 1.14m
- Canton 24H REV (no memes whatsoever, completely different use cases) 1.84m.
Not shitting on Solana here, I feeakin' love Solana. Just giving one obvious example.

Still does not explain your use of 'only' in the initial post.
Not a much better argument (but here we get into the meme-merit talk).
However, even if this was the intention, it doesn't read like that.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater. I came to crypto from the industry I loved because I liked it more and I'm still here. This is actually why this tweet hits the spot so hard.

@vibhu PS I'm at Solana Summit in Belgrade now. Over 5k people signed up for a summer event in the Balkans. It hasn't started yet, but the city is already packed with Solana builders. Wanna chime in and tell them they shouldn't be there if the reason is not memes?
Ok, I'll bite. Let's put aside all the potential arguments about the merits of memecoins, that's not the main point here and I assume everyone has already made up their mind about them anyway.
The main topic is that you just told the builders building anything that's not around memecoins that their work is irrelevant and doomed.
Calling memes the best use case is already depressing enough but calling it THE ONLY use case is the real offence here.
So, everyone building around payments/trading/defi/data/tokenization/communities... is stupid and should just give up? Because "memes are the only usecase of blockchain"?
The words of someone in your position carry more weight and there is (or at least should be) more responsibility when writing ragebaits like this one.
