New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation today requiring owners and operators of electrical bicycles to obtain motorized bicycle licenses, registration, and insurance.

The law, which is now one of the toughest in the nation, also requires owners and operators to be at least 17 years old with a valid driver’s license or at least 15 years old with a motorized bicycle license.
