The young man was Pvt. Troy Still of Lusby, Maryland. According to Task & Purpose, he was a former McDonald’s employee who lost 120 pounds in order to qualify for the Marine Corps. The article was published April 15, 2015, and says the photos were provided by Sgt. Bryan Nygaard through the Marine Corps recruiting station in Baltimore.
