Why is it so hard for some wrestling fans to understand that “character fatigue” is a real thing, especially in WWE?
This is nothing new. We’ve seen:
Hulk Hogan fatigue
Goldberg fatigue
John Cena fatigue
Roman Reigns fatigue
Charlotte Flair fatigue
Now we’re starting to see Cody Rhodes fatigue.
Is that the wrestler’s fault? No.
The issue is that these performers are often positioned in the same spot, doing the same things with essentially the same character for years. Cody Rhodes has largely had the same babyface character since AEW debuted in 2019. There hasn’t been much evolution. Eventually, fans start to feel like they’ve seen the same story over and over again and, naturally, they get burned out.
So when fans say “same old shit,” they’re not saying these wrestlers can’t win championships or be top babyfaces. What they’re asking for is something fresh. New stories and new character directions. Something that doesn’t feel like a repeat of what we’ve already seen a thousand times with other stars who eventually ran into the same fatigue.
If you can’t understand that in 2026, you might need to step back and rethink how you approach wrestling discourse. It’s okay to have a Cody Rhodes bias and love him no matter what he does, but it’s also fair for fans to want something new.
so glad i grew up with the likes of That's So Raven, Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire, Sister Sister, Wizards Of Waverly Place. Zoey 101, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Drake & Josh, True Jackson VP, etc..
