@vee4vampy @Rainbowgynous @NeuroRebel He’s 8 years old. He just aces a vocabulary test using pics that was intended for 16yo and up. His receptive language is way beyond typical just little expressive language. He’s gotta be totally frustrated

@NeuroRebel I have another example now, my nephews parents decided not to get an official diagnosis because he is academically exceptional but is bored. They’re afraid putting a “disabled” tag on him will make NT’s think he’s incapable instead of brilliant and bored.

@NeuroRebel I’m an autism dad. I see a lot of parental denial. There’s a stigma about autism that I think is heavily fed by the anti-vaxxers and others that treat autism as a terrible disease that can be avoided.

@Rainbowgynous @vee4vampy @NeuroRebel He does use sign (ASL) for simple requests. His receptive language is actually above average so there’s still much frustration not being able to use the vocabulary he has inside. Same with pictures and AAC devices. It helps, it’s not a great substitute

@gayphysicist @NeuroRebel Can you clarify? Some of those skills lead to increased independence. I’d say that independence is part of wellbeing. I don’t have expectations of having a “normal” child but I would like him to be able to survive at least a short time without intensive support.

@Rainbowgynous @vee4vampy @NeuroRebel The reason I follow these conversations is to get insight into what my non verbal son is feeling but doesn’t always communicate in a way I understand. He is communicating and it’s my job to understand him, not his job to make me understand.

@VibeHi The LA Times said he has a “federal firearms dealers permit” why then is this a shock? The arrest is for selling firearms outside the permitted parameters of said license but 1000 weapons for a dealer isn’t that outrageous.
