Henry Winkler Reveals He Bought Back Sylvester Stallone’s Script From ABC to Protect ‘Rocky’ and Never Even Made a Penny.

“I went back to Sly. I said, ‘Here’s the good news, we sold it. The bad news is they want to replace the writer.’”

Stallone’s response was simple.

“Henry, don’t let them do that to me.”

So Winkler went back to ABC and asked for the script back, even offering to return all the money.

“They said, ‘We don’t do that.’ I said, ‘I know, I know, I know, but I need that script back and here’s the money.’”

He got it back and gave it to Stallone.

A year and a half later, Rocky came out.

Winkler’s final revelation?

“Not a penny did I see.”
