The real debate is not capitalism versus socialism—it is how to balance market freedom, innovation, and personal responsibility with public protection against risks individuals cannot reasonably bear alone. Democracy and capitalism can thrive with a social safety net, but only if the programs are effective, affordable, and do not undermine the system that creates the wealth to support them.
