My name is Herod Priovolos and I want to tell you what #TheOdyssey truly means to me and to generations of Greeks who grew up with Homer’s story.
Homer did not sing of Odysseus simply to entertain us with ships, storms, gods and monsters. He told the story because he understood what war, time, distance and loss can do to the human soul.
Odysseus leaves Ithaca as a king, a husband and a father. He returns twenty years later alone, exhausted and disguised as a beggar, carrying the memory of every companion who never made it home.
The monsters are not merely creatures created for spectacle.
The Cyclops is power without justice. The Sirens are the beautiful voices that tempt a person to abandon their purpose. Circe represents the danger of losing our humanity. Calypso offers Odysseus immortality, but even eternal life becomes a prison when the price is forgetting his wife, his son, his homeland and his own identity.
And Ithaca is not merely an island.
Ithaca is the place that remembers you when the world no longer recognizes your face. It is the home that remains alive inside you after everything else has been taken away. It is Penelope growing older while she waits. It is Telemachus becoming a man without his father. It is Argos surviving long enough to recognize his master one final time.
Odysseus is not great simply because he defeats monsters. He is great because he is proud, frightened, wounded, clever, imperfect and deeply human. He loses his companions, his youth, his name and twenty years of his life, yet he refuses to forget who he is.
When he finally returns, Penelope does not recognize him through strength, glory or appearance. She tests him. Odysseus proves his identity by remembering the bed they built together around the roots of a living olive tree.
That is the heart of The Odyssey.
Not the battles.
Not the ships.
Not the monsters.
Two people standing before each other after twenty years, asking whether love, memory and identity can survive everything time has done to them.
That is why this poem has survived for almost 3,000 years. Every human being is trying to return to something: a home, a person, a lost part of themselves, or the life they had before the world changed them.
So use Homer’s seas, gods, heroes and monsters. But please understand what you are touching.
The Odyssey was never truly about how far a man could travel.
It was about how much the world could take from him before he stopped being himself, and whether, after losing almost everything, he could still find his way home.
HOW THEY ENGINEERED THE FAKE PANDEMIC
1. China released staged footage of people “dropping dead” in the streets; scenes never witnessed anywhere else in the world before or after December 2019.
2. A PCR test was rolled out that could not determine whether someone was actually sick. The vast majority of results were false positives.
3. The claim of asymptomatic transmission was heavily promoted to justify restrictions on healthy people and to force mass testing on the entire population; which led to tens of millions of false positive test results.
4. Tech companies and media outlets were mobilized to censor dissent and rebrand inconvenient truths as “misinformation.”
5. Behavioral psychologists were brought in to design fear-based messaging specifically intended to secure public compliance.
6. To keep the illusion of a deadly pandemic alive, they required excess mortality data.
7. Ordinary mild respiratory symptoms alone could not produce those numbers, so the population was subjected to sustained psychological pressure capable of triggering mass psychogenic illness.
8. Relentless fear messaging kept cortisol levels chronically elevated, weakening immune function, particularly among the elderly.
9. Social isolation, delayed medical care, and lockdown policies then generated the excess deaths needed to prop up the narrative.
10. Cloth and surgical masks were suddenly declared effective, something no serious public-health authority had previously recommended for ordinary respiratory pathogens, turning every face into a walking advertisement for fear.
11. People were conditioned to remain isolated “until the vaccine was ready,” buying authorities additional time to expand control.
12. Billions were injected with an experimental product that was claimed to stop both infection and transmission.
13. When those claims collapsed, the goalposts were moved: “Your shot won’t work unless the unvaccinated also take it.”
14. New “variants” were announced every few months to justify an endless series of booster campaigns.
15. A new condition - “long COVID” - was introduced to reframe mounting vaccine side effects.
16. Pharmaceutical companies recorded unprecedented profits, shielded by government contracts and complete legal immunity.
17. Anyone who raised objections was silenced, deplatformed, investigated, or publicly discredited.
18. Once the story became too strained to maintain, the pandemic was abruptly declared over, and the entire episode was treated as if it had never happened.

This picture means something to an entire generation of Dutch people.
I'm one of them.
My parents came to Holland as Moroccan immigrants.
I was born there.
Dutch passport.
Dutch better than my Arabic.
The first 18 years of my life, Holland fed me, schooled me, raised me.
The Moroccans helped rebuild Holland.
Holland gave them roads, schools, a future in return.
Fair trade.
But we never really integrated.
That's not on one side.
That's on everyone.
We learned to speak for our grandparents, because they never got to learn the language.
We brought our food.
We brought our culture. Mosques. Books and humor.
We had fun.
We hung out.
We went to each other's weddings and loved the mix of it.
And still.
We never really became one.
The politicians made sure to categorize us.
They needed us to be outsiders, while we were busy acting like insiders.
So a wall went up between neighbors.
Then yesterday a silly game with a ball put two teams on the same grass.
Two continents.
Two cultures.
Except they're not two teams.
They're teams stitched together by the same life.
The Dutch know the Moroccans. Intimately.
The Moroccans know the Dutch. Intimately.
The Moroccans in Morocco spend every summer selling to the Moroccans from Holland.
The Dutch spend every day next to Moroccans. In School. At The local butcher. The streets.
The Moroccan team is full of Moroccans carrying Dutch passports.
The Dutch team is full of their actual friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
Such a simple game.
Such a complicated story.
When I look at this image I don't see football.
I see high school.
I see pride.
I see distance.
I don't see compassion.
I see resentment.
And that's exactly how we lived in beautiful Holland.
Together. Happily.
And quietly, unconsciously, apart.
I left when I was 18.
I went back to Morocco.
I resented Holland.
For years it was me vs them.
Now I understand what I actually have.
I can read two cultures from the inside.
And I get to choose.
What I carry with me.
What I leave behind.
Because every culture has its gold.

For 800 years, one coin held its weight. The Byzantine solidus, struck by Constantine in 312 AD at 4.5 grams of gold, stayed at that weight until the eleventh century. Eight centuries. No central bank press releases, no "transitory inflation," no economists explaining why your savings evaporating is actually good for you. Just gold, weighed and stamped, kept honest by emperors who grasped something Jerome Powell and Kevin Warsh do not.
Foreign merchants called it the bezant, and it traded from Britain to China as the dollar of the medieval world. A Sri Lankan trader in the sixth century, recorded by Cosmas Indicopleustes, watched a Roman gold coin and a Persian silver coin compared side by side. The Roman coin won. Not by decree. By weight and fineness that nobody dared touch for generation after generation. When your money is good enough that strangers 5,000 miles away accept it without checking, you have built something real.
Then came the eleventh century, and the discipline cracked. Constantine IX and his successors started shaving the gold content, mixing in cheaper metal, telling themselves the empire needed the funds. By the reign of Alexios I in 1092, the coin that had been 24 karats sat near 10. The Byzantines invented currency debasement as imperial policy and discovered, as every debaser since, that you can fool the market briefly, but never permanently. Trade routes shifted. Venetian and Genoese merchants stepped in with their own sound coinage, and the bezant's monopoly on Mediterranean commerce died with its gold content.
Notice the sequence. The coin stayed stable precisely as long as the men in charge resisted the temptation to print prosperity. The moment they decided their spending needs outranked the integrity of the money, the 800-year run ended inside a single century. Byzantium failed gold.
You live under a currency that has lost 96% of its purchasing power since 1913, and your central bankers call this "price stability." The solidus held for eight centuries because nobody had the technology to ruin it from a keyboard. The temptation was always there. The means weren't.
What can we learn from this on the topic of de-dollarization? The USD will fail when it loses its value; it will lose its value when the powers that be create and spend too much of it, thereby debasing the value of the current supply, or as we call it today, inflation.

A journalist in 1987 rewrote the 2,500-year-old Tao Te Ching as a series of short parables about programmers, and the book became required reading inside Silicon Valley because every line of the joke turned out to be deadly serious.
His name was Geoffrey James.
He was not a famous engineer. He was a technology journalist who had spent years inside the offices of early software companies watching the same disasters play out over and over again.
Managers piling more programmers onto failing projects. Codebases collapsing under their own weight. Corporate hierarchies producing endless documents that nobody read. Geniuses being interrupted by meetings until they quit and went home.
He could have written a serious management book. Plenty of serious management books already existed and almost nobody in software was reading them. He decided to do something stranger.
He picked up a copy of the Tao Te Ching, the foundational text of Taoist philosophy written in China around 500 BC, and he rewrote it line by line as if Lao Tzu had been a master programmer.
The result was published in 1987 as The Tao of Programming. 151 pages. Nine books. Roughly 50 short parables. A comedy book on the surface and a philosophy book underneath, written in deliberately ornate language that made you smile while you were absorbing arguments that have aged better than almost anything else published about software in the last 40 years.
The opening line of the book is the giveaway. Thus spake the master programmer. When you have learned to snatch the error code from the trap frame, it will be time for you to leave. The joke is that he is parodying the kung fu master from the old Kung Fu TV show. The argument underneath the joke is that real mastery in software is not measured by what you can build. It is measured by how cleanly you can recover when the system fails.
The book has been passed around hacker communities continuously since the late 1980s. It sits alongside Fred Brooks's Mythical Man-Month on the required reading list of serious software teams. People who have never heard of Geoffrey James still quote his lines without knowing where they came from. The reason it has refused to die for 40 years is that every line of the parody was always disguising a piece of real wisdom that nobody else was willing to say plainly.
Here are some of the lines, and what each one is actually saying.
"Even a perfect program still has bugs."
The line is funny because it sounds like a contradiction. The truth underneath is that there is no such thing as a finished program. Every system you ship is alive. It is going to encounter inputs you did not anticipate, hardware you did not test on, and edge cases your imagination could not produce.
Treating any piece of software as finished is the single most common reason production systems fail. The masters in the book are calm about bugs because they have stopped pretending bugs are exceptions. Bugs are the default state. The programmer's job is to keep them from compounding.
"Let the programmers be many and the managers few. Then all will be productive."
The line is funny because every software company in the world does the opposite. The truth underneath is that programming is a kind of work that runs almost entirely on uninterrupted thought, and the more layers of management you stack on top of it, the more interruptions you create, the more meetings the programmers have to attend, the fewer actual hours of deep work get done.
Every manager you add to a software team subtracts more productive hours from the engineers than the manager could possibly add through coordination. Brooks proved this formally in 1975. James said it in nine words in 1987.
"After three days without programming, life becomes meaningless."
The line is funny because it sounds like an addict talking. The truth underneath is that genuine craft work produces a kind of meaning that almost nothing else in modern life provides. The programmer who has not touched real code in three days is not just bored.
They are emotionally underfed. The masters in the book understand that the work itself is not a means to a paycheck. The work is the reward. The paycheck is a side effect. Everything that interferes with the actual work, no matter how prestigious or well-paid it looks, is making the programmer's life worse, not better.
"A manager went to the master programmer and showed him the requirements document for a new application. The manager asked the master, how long will it take to design this system if I assign five programmers to it? The master replied, it will take one year. The manager said, but we need this system immediately or even sooner. How long will it take if I assign ten programmers to it? The master programmer frowned. In that case it will take two years."
The line is the punchline of Brooks's Law disguised as a koan. Adding programmers to a late project makes it later, because every new person has to be brought up to speed by the existing team, which slows the existing team down, which extends the timeline. The book teaches this in 60 words. The same lesson takes most managers 20 years of failed projects to learn, if they ever learn it at all.
The deeper pattern is the one most readers miss the first time through.
James was not really writing about programming. He was using programming as a setting for a much older argument that Taoist philosophy has been making for 2,500 years.
The argument is that the world is governed by simple principles that get harder to see the more cleverness you stack on top of them. Force does not work. Pressure does not work. More resources do not work. The only thing that works is restraint, simplicity, and the patience to let the right shape emerge.
Lao Tzu was talking about how to govern a kingdom. James was talking about how to ship software. The wisdom is the same. The kingdom is the codebase. The emperor is the project manager. The advisors are the developers. And the entire collapse of every doomed software project in the last 40 years has had the same root cause that the collapse of every doomed dynasty has had for the previous 4,000.
People mistook complexity for competence.
The book has been sitting on the internet for free for almost 30 years. You can read all 151 pages in an afternoon. Most people who run it as a joke walk away quoting it for the rest of their careers.
What James understood in 1987 is even more true in 2026. AI can now generate millions of lines of code in seconds. The bottleneck has shifted entirely. The bottleneck is no longer typing speed. The bottleneck is judgment. The bottleneck is taste. The bottleneck is the ability to look at a generated codebase and feel, without quite knowing why, that something is wrong with it. That kind of feel is exactly what the book was teaching all along.
The Tao of Programming flows far away and returns on the wind of morning.
The masters in the book were never joking. The world just took 40 years to figure out they were not.
