For all his criticism of Trump’s victimization fund, Cassidy gave up the chance to kill it when he could have — on the first vote, a Schumer motion to recommit that was set at 50 vote threshold.

He spent all day and night trying to craft language to limit the fund that wouldn’t threaten the bill’s privilege, to no avail. It ultimately failed at 60 vote threshold, getting only 5 more GOP votes: Collins, Husted, Murkowski, Sullivan & Tillis.

In his defense, Husted or Sullivan, 2 vulnerable Rs who voted for the Schumer amendment only after Cassidy voted against it, and it was clear it would fail, might have cast a vote killing the Schumer amendment *even if* Cassidy didn’t.
