Intersectionality yes. But the reason why black ppl rightfully say race comes FIRST is bcs even before birth, black parents know FS, before gender or sexuality, that their kids ARE GOING TO experience racism. Black children from v young age are confronted w racism from dif groups
@MinutemenFA Is erasing the struggles of both groups. Thats what my point is. I am black and queer and I’ve been in the closet. My struggles as black person are different than my struggles being queer.
If anyone actually said that, they deserve the actual pits; but out of majority of the debate no one has said this and to generalize as if so, is disingenuous. The point is explicitly you have a way out, poc do not.
"Queer people getting raped and murdered actually isn't as bad as real oppression because they could have just stayed in the closet" is one of the most evil, disgusting, and idiotic ideas that frequently gets passed off as leftist on this website
@MinutemenFA I’m not though, as a rape survivor, I would not wish what happened to me on the most evil person. what I’m saying is that they are inherently different because one is enacted upon birth and the other does not. It’s ok for them to be different and to imply they are not different +
What makes this so funny to me... is that if you simply admit racism has a unique history of cruelty that has never been repeated at such a scale... we can talk about how that racism flooded over to oppressing queer ppl and women. But you won't bc ud have to admit you're wrong
this whole "racism vs homophobia vs transphobia" discourse pisses me off bc this was originally about blk ppl being rightfully upset bc that slayter bitch was racist. its desperately important to me that yall know that THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL CONVERSATIONNNN
as a white queer, why are other white queers so insecure that they feel the need to compare queer oppression to racism? a group of people facing an objectively higher level of oppression than your group does not automatically invalidate the discrimination you experience, i fear.
Also, homophobic/transphobic Black people are almost exclusively targeting BLACK queer/trans people. They know who they have power over and who they don't. They know not to try white people for the most part....
....so white people need to stop with this rhetoric.
@Phaezr Yes, there’s also rampant sexual abuse in the black community& your statistic also includes black trans kids! It’s not the oppression Olympics, they are different forms of oppression and one is enacted upon the individual from birth whereas the other requires coming out.
@cilekbalcik@nikkiwaly For explicitly darker skinned people in every race sure. But that’s not really a one size fits all issue for POC. Trans people should be free to live as they please and I don’t think trans people should hide who they are. I think that they are two different forms of oppression.
@Phaezr I fall under the trans umbrella and have to adjust when I do not feel safe or am going some where that may put me at risk. But at the end of the day, people still see and know I’m black.
@Phaezr The point is that it has been done. Trans people have done this on a short term scale for a job, or to move somewhere they can transition safely and openly. People of color cannot do that. They are different forms of oppression and that is ok!
@egsatamiente@j8d3nyaps Yes, if you don’t keep up with cultural practices, act differently etc you can be told you “don’t act black enough”; On the opposite end; some black families will marginalize you for being dark skin??? Colorism is an effect of racism.
the point is that transitioning is a choice. you are choosing to be visibly queer. by choice. you’re making the decision. being black isn’t a choice. there’s no decision making in being a poc. what don’t you get?
