Anne O'Brien from Inchicore in Dublin was Ireland's first professional women's footballer. Anne left Ireland at 17 to play for Stade de Reims in France (this pic below was taken at their ground in 1974) but it was the midfielder's time in Italy, primarly with S.S. Lazio that brought her most success with six league titles and two cup wins. At international level O'Brien was capped far too few times for Ireland (only 4) owing to the FAI's reluctance to call up players based abroad. Anne died in 2016 in Rome aged 60. Dublin Canvas have just completed a new painting of Anne in Bulfin Road, Inchicore. A lovely tribute to one of the originals. 🇮🇪 #rip #coygig
