This is definitely not to say that *scientists* should not question or go against the consensus, but it is to say that random people on twitter shouldn’t make all this fuss about 1 guy.

Science not is done by consensus, sure, but consensus tends to be a pretty good indicator of where the data points. Like any indicator, it occasionally fails, though 1/2

@AMK_PhD @skdh I am not sure how that is a rebuttal to what I said. You will occasionally get the rebel who happens to be correct, but more often than not, the crank you championed is just flat-out wrong. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to be betting on the crank.

Plus, I really think algebra can be taught even before arithmetic, and in this way, even help the kid understand arithmetic in a systematic manner, especially if the kid in question is pretty good at abstract thinking.

There are many physicists who work in e.g. atomic physics who will not necessarily have up-to-date knowledge of problems in astro/hep
