Samples of XLoader malware were tested against BluVector's patented Machine Learning Engine (MLE) and all were detected. Regression testing of these samples show that BluVector would have detected the infostealer an average of 97 months prior to their release.
Eternity is a new player in the ever-growing Malware as a Service market. Their current malware offerings are not particularly sophisticated, and at least one appears to be based on publicly available source code. However, malware does not need to be sophisticated to succeed.
Analysts state that at least 50% of the alerts that they investigate are false positives, meaning that this investigation time is wasted.
Organizations must focus on reducing the volume of alerts and allowing SOC analysts to address true risks and actionable alerts.
If data is king, the king’s gold is being poorly invested.
When security engineers are told to “tune at the source”, they should instead envision a source between storage and the data originator which (by the way) can also threat hunt.
