🚨INEOS decision making at Manchester United! 👇

• They spent forever chasing Dan Ashworth like he was the final piece of the puzzle. Got him. Then sacked him months later.

• They spent weeks reviewing Erik ten Hag’s position and apparently decided he should go. He wins the FA Cup, they completely change direction, keep him… then sack him a few months into the next season anyway.

• Then comes Ruben Amorim. INEOS knew EXACTLY what they were getting. A manager completely committed to a back three. They interviewed him, assessed him and decided he was the man to rebuild United.

Then a few months later Amorim was gone too, partly because he wouldn’t move away from the same philosophy INEOS knew about BEFORE hiring him.

• We were then told they wouldn’t rush the next appointment. Six months to assess everything and find the right man.

After all that, they gave the permanent job to Michael Carrick who done really well — the interim manager who was already sitting there.

Okay. Fine. If after six months of analysing everything you genuinely believe Carrick is THE man, BACK HIM.

Instead, we reach the end of the window with roughly £100m net spend, obvious holes still in the squad and ONE senior natural left-back expected to survive a Premier League + Champions League season.

Different managers. Different “assessments”. Different plans.

Yet somehow Manchester United ALWAYS end up leaving the manager short and then acting surprised when things eventually go wrong.

If Michael Carrick struggles later this season, remember how we’ve sent him into it. #MUFC

“Manchester United have to ask themselves what they are doing with this squad.

You spend around £150m rebuilding the midfield, yet you reach the final hours of the transfer window still worrying about whether you have enough quality at left-back and centre-back.

For me, this is where the recruitment department has to take responsibility.

You cannot ask Michael Carrick to compete at the highest level and then give him a squad that lacks depth in important positions. If you want the manager to succeed, you have to give him the tools to succeed.

Look at Luke Shaw. You cannot expect him to play every Premier League and European match without proper competition or cover. One injury to the wrong defender and suddenly United are improvising again.

That is not how you build a squad capable of challenging for trophies.

During Sir Alex Ferguson’s time, Manchester United understood that you needed more than a strong starting XI. You needed quality throughout the squad. Players who could come in and maintain the level.

Carrick has already shown that he can get this team playing good football. The 5-2 comeback against Ipswich, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick, showed what this team can do when the quality is there.

Now the people responsible for recruitment have to do their part.

If United finish this window without adding another quality defender, then I don’t think it is fair to immediately blame Carrick when injuries eventually expose the squad.

If Manchester United truly want Carrick to succeed, back him properly.

Give him the depth. Give him the quality. Give him the players he needs.

Then judge the manager.”

“Liverpool have gone and spent £150m on Barcola, a fantastic player but someone who still has to prove himself in English football. Manchester City are going into Premier League clubs, looking at their best players and saying, ‘We want him.’

“And that tells you everything. They’re not waiting for the perfect opportunity. They’re creating the opportunity. They’ve lost two massive players in Rodri and De Bruyne and instead of making excuses, they’ve gone into the market and tried to replace that quality with different types of players.

“For me, that is clear ambition. It’s not simply about how much money you spend. It’s about identifying what you need, finding the players who can give it to you and having the courage to get the deals done. Manchester City have shown that this summer.”

If you have a spare 5 minutes then I URGE you to read this. I recently recieved the most insightful DM about Ruben Amorim from a Sporting fan that you’re EVER going to read:

“Hey Frank, I am going to message you because I now follow a few Manchester United accounts and you are one of my favorite ones.

“I know you back Amorim but I need to tell you a couple of things about him so you have a bit more insights and knowledge about the manager he really is.

“First of all, you need to understand that this man, despite being a Benfica fan all his life, is the most important person that Sporting have had (in the football department) in the past 40-50 years. We came from 3 titles in 40 years. Three! And the man set us up for 3 in 5 years.

“Second, you need to understand how that man works. He is a leader, and he uses his leadership by connecting with the players. Sporting players gave their lives on the pitch for the guy. Check his last match with us: Braga 2-4 Sporting. Our second/third most important player, Pedro Gonçalves, played injured just because he wanted to play for Amorim’s last match. He ended up being injured for the next five months.

“A lot of this important connection with the players happens in the summer. Amorim always takes the team for 2-3 weeks in the summer and he just builds a team from there. We don’t know how he does it, but when the season starts, the players just look at each other as family. The environment you feel in the locker room is something you have never seen before.

“This is another reason why he needs his time, and it’s always why that comment saying “what kind of manager needs 8-10 players to win matches?” - trust me, he does not. He needs to win the locker room. He needs a summer to implant on them the idea that they can win against anyone. And he will do exactly that.

“Lastly, understand that Amorim is much more than a coach. He is a proper boss/manager. We will restructure the whole club. It’s very important that people understand this.

“At Sporting, he made us a winning team by improving much more than the main squad - he improved the scouting, the staff, the youth teams. He created his own performance team. He simply changed this club from one point to the other.

“He went to Manchester to do exactly that. You can believe me when I say that if it was an invitation from Real Madrid, at that exact moment, he wouldn’t have leave Sporting. He wanted that exact context of Manchester United, he wanted to grab a club with massive potential and completely change it. He will do just that.

“Keep backing the guy. Don’t trust the nonsense of him needing lots of players or a lot of money… just look at his first few months at Sporting. He was the fourth (!) coach that season. We finished fourth. The next season, first match, we lost 1-4 against Lask Linz and missed the Europa League qualification.

“Then he grabbed a couple of youngsters, hired Pedro Porro + a couple of guys he had in Braga and proceeded to win our first title in 19 years. The rest is history.”
