maybe somewhere along the way, after everything he went through, evan started looking at life a little differently. when you’ve been forced to face how fragile life can be, you learn to hold onto the smallest things a little tighter.
he plays basketball. he gets excited over little figurines and silly things that make him happy. he can spend an entire day in the studio, recording the same song over and over, trying to become a little better than he was yesterday. he keeps learning, keeps creating, keeps finding reasons to love the days he has.
and maybe that’s what touches me the most about him. he doesn’t seem to need grand things to make life meaningful. sometimes it’s music. sometimes it’s a basketball court. sometimes it’s something tiny and cute that simply makes him smile. sometimes it’s staying up late working on a song because he still has so much he wants to say.
i don't know what went through his mind during those difficult years, but i can't help wondering if somewhere in all of that, he learned not to take the ordinary moments for granted, because look at him now. he’s living. he’s dreaming. he’s making music. he’s laughing over little things. he’s chasing the person he wants to become ♡
and maybe that’s why watching evan pursue his dreams feels so much more precious to me. and "dom" isn't just an album, its his story! evan is filling his days with everything that makes him feel alive, and i hope he gets to have an endless amount of those days.
i hope there are still countless songs waiting for him to write, countless basketball games to play, countless little things waiting to make him smile. i hope life gives him so much more than what he once had to fight through
because after everything, he deserves to simply live a life that feels full. and i'll always be so proud of him for choosing to fill it with music, dreams, and all these little pieces of happiness! ♡
what i admire most is how healthy and grounded his mindset is. he takes time to reflect, learn, and push forward. going thru cancer as a kid could’ve broken anyone, but despite it all, he grew up w/ so much strength and passion becoming a man who never stops working on himself 😭
“When I sing on “Death of Me,” the lead single, that this “ain’t the death of me,” it comes from a place of having actually gone right up to the edge of death myself. No matter how far down I went, I felt over and over that it was never really the end. I hope EVER hears that message and finds some hope in it.”
death of me inspiration is his experience being on the edge of death. i need a GUN now!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
heeseung’s love for the little things and deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures in his day to day holds so much more weight knowing how close he came to losing it
"no matter how far down i went, it was never really the end."
hearing evan say "this ain't the death of me" hits so much harder knowing where it comes from. 😭 behind the beautiful music is a literal survivor who fought so hard just to be here with us today. thank you for staying strong, for fighting to come home, and for turning your darkest moments into a literal lifeline of hope for EVER. we love you so much, Evan
Sometimes he needed encouragement, including as a young teenager, when he felt too shy to sing in front of a crowd: “I was just avoiding my dream,” Evan says. So his dad intervened. “He said to me, ‘Oh, this is your last chance. If you don’t go to art high school, you’re done, don’t think about [being a] singer anymore.’” So, at around age 16, Evan took an entrance exam at Hanlim Arts School. “I failed,” Evan says, laughing.
But when he left the exam, he recalls, talent scouts from the major K-pop companies, including BigHit (now HYBE), were lined up outside the gates. At first he thought they were parents picking up their kids, but they were interested in talking to him; not long after, he signed with BigHit Entertainment. As he puts it, “The second chapter started at that moment.”
