🚨BREAKING🚨
The House just passed the #DCStatehood bill (#HR51), marking the first time since the creation of the District of Columbia 219 years ago that either chamber of Congress has passed a bill to grant statehood to D.C. residents and, with it, equal citizenship.
Debate on our #DCStatehood bill will air on https://t.co/XyhoIBW6zn starting around 9:15 a.m. For generations, DC families like mine have not had the rights other Americans take for granted. Today, we take a monumental step forward in ending this injustice for DC residents.
(*also, my mistake, I should know the difference between a letter and a Committee Report, but I love to see it all the same. Thank you @EleanorNorton@RepMaloney@OversightDems !)
Thank you @OversightDems Chair @RepMaloney for filing an excellent committee report explaining the need for and constitutionality of my #DCStatehood bill, paving the way for the historic House floor vote on the bill this coming Friday. Read it here: https://t.co/6NABD3OqUQ
The curfew is in effect in D.C. BUT YOU CAN VOTE UNTIL POLLS CLOSE AT 8 P.M. But if you are standing in line by then STAY PUT BECAUSE YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO VOTE. (Sorry for yelling.)
The murder of #GeorgeFloyd may be a spark, but his death follows a long line of violent acts born of an enduring system of racism & generations of injustice. None of us can remain silent. Hear the pain, witness the loss, grieve the injustice - but then be prepared to take action.
