@FastnFurious40@StanChartKE For a little context on how I ended up running my first marathon, I was actually training for a half marathon. But when I went to register, the 21km category was already sold out. Something in me just went, “What could possibly go wrong if you just doubled the distance?”
They say the first marathon is never easy — but @BMalinga03 made courage look effortless! 💥 She makes our Club’s Top Pick of the Week for daring her spirit and finishing her first-ever 42KM at StanChart Nairobi @StanChartKE 👏🔥

Things we dont like doing sometimes are the things that better our lives at the end of the day.

Who says elephants can’t run? The Inaugural Gulu City Marathon will take place on 7th December, 2024. Welcome to Gulu City - the warm heart of Northern Uganda.
Fellow runners, please read this.
Most of the time, we share the smiles and joy of running. What we deny people is the process and what we go through. Let me share this.
This week, I had a scary experience. After last Sunday's run in 35+ heat, I thought the recovery would be easy since I hadn’t run at my usual race pace. I went back to my normal activities; Monday was fine, with regular muscle pains, and I did a good recovery run on Tuesday morning. Afterwards, I got lost in work and meetings for most of the day.
While having my last meeting of the day [a physical one], I suddenly became drowsy, and I felt like the world was spinning at a very fast pace. I held onto a chair firmly and hydrated with water to avoid falling. Thankfully, the person sitting beside me was a fellow runner. She rushed and got me a Coke for sugar and a hydration tab to stabilize my system. The entire episode happened so fast that seconds mattered a lot.
That's when it dawned on me that I had become busy and missed lunch. The body had run out of energy and was in shut-down mode. Precautionary, a colleague drove me to my physio to work on the musicals; I ate a heavy meal that evening, slept, and was very good the following day. I have never experienced this, and it's been a learning moment.
Runners load cabs and hydrate heavily while preparing for a marathon. After the marathon, we tend to relax, forgetting that we must repair and restore what our bodies have endured. Post-race routines are essential and should be prioritized.
This is why we often hear of unpleasant stories after races sometimes including death of colleagues. We take lightly this period and I now know what to do.
I am grateful that this incident happened while I was with caring people, sitting, not standing, and not even on the road, driving. The outcome could have been different. #Running #Gratitude
