Video showing firefighters from @LondonFire rescuing people from flats in Whitechapel using ladders, the incident took place on the 7th of February 2024 and was caused by an e-bike which was in active thermal runaway with highly toxic, flammable and explosive vapours blocking escape routes.

The incident comes just days just after LFB announced they’d seen a 78% increase in fires caused by e-bikes and e-scooters in 2023 compared to 2022.

Incidents involving e-bikes and e-scooters are currently the fastest growing fire risk in London.

@S_Harding79 Getting there thanks and yes it was. Whilst trying to move it across the road to make it safer for the officers, I got taken out by the open drivers door and trapped underneath it as it was towed. Lessons learnt all round I think.

After a freak accident at work yesterday, don’t take every day mundane jobs for granted, communicate and plan, don’t rush. A scary moment being dragged face down along the A12 could have been avoided.
I’m fine but to fellow emergency service workers take care out on the roads.

Today the update to the laws around handling a mobile device while driving are live.

The following distractions are now covered by the law and can earn a driver 6 points and £200 fine.

@EssexPoliceUK Personally and I think I speak for a few RPU officers, we much prefer the drive of BMW. The Volvo’s are down on power and the gearbox is lagging with no paddles on the wheel to aid response driving. The XC90 are also not ideal for TPAC compared to the drivability of the BMW’s.

NEW CHANGES TO #HighwayCode due at the end of the month.

Vehicles turning into or out of a junction MUST give way to any pedestrians waiting to cross. Giving priority to the more vulnerable road user, helps reduce their risk.
