Alles, was uns begegnet, läßt Spuren zurück. Alles trägt unmerklich zu unserer Bildung bei.
Everything we encounter leaves traces behind. Everything contributes imperceptibly to our education.
- Goethe

@privacydenise End year 3, beginning year 4 (of 6-year program). Asked a prof whose feedback I valued to look over my favorite seminar paper and tell me what I would need to do to make it into a journal article. Also, read A LOT of the latest Ac journals in your field. :-)

@citizenderwelt Save. Drive for Uber. (Set own hours, time for writing/researching) I realize this assumes owning a car! Can make good money doing early morning airport runs for traveling business people.

@_NicFlores_@learnteachwin Write, even if it's "no good." Go back to your abstract/proposal and free write based on one of your profound sentences.
Take a paragraph from one source and rewrite it completely as though paraphrasing = as an exercise to loosen up your brain clog. Just keep swimming ... :-)
@privacydenise @AcademicChatter Also, think like a teacher! How would you organize to teach? What context would your students need? How would you group texts to make a syllabus unit? If you had to break your project down and explain it to a non-academic audience, how would you do it? Good luck! Happy writing!
@erinmaochu @privacydenise @AcademicChatter This too! Or doing arbitrary categorizing. Like organizing by date of publication (diff things going on in diff decades??), or by major themes of each, etc. Relations might jump out at you.
@BiologyForLyfe @privacydenise @AcademicChatter Agree! I would do more like 10 key words because this helps with seeing connections/overlaps, and also a row for brainstorming applicable theory(ies) to that text. Sometimes even putting the "NOT xyz" actually helps with organizing.
What if there was a game of doing a PhD? How do you win? Are the other players competitors or collaborators? What happens if your cat goes missing? Find out here: https://t.co/ndCDF85VzL #phdchat@SocialWorkEdinU
