It has been determined that Callie has infiltrative bowel disease, but the underlying cause is unknown at this time. Callie will need follow up diagnostics with an outside veterinarian to help determine the cause of her bowel disease, and will likely need medication long term to manage it. Callie has allowed all handling during their exams and did well in her previous foster home in terms of her behavior. APPETITE/EATING ISSUES IS A DEATH SENTENCE IN SHELTER. This evaluation/diagnosis means that CALLIE will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

2. MILO - Milo is a geriatric cat with chronic kidney disease. He is also very underweight and has significant dental disease, but has been eating well in shelter and is friendly. Milo will need continued nursing care and veterinary follow-up for his medical issues. This evaluation/diagnosis means that MILO will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

3. BUBBLES - She is a sweet, mature cat with a swollen left eye that we suspect is due to a mass or an infection. She is eating and active at this time and needs placement in a home to enjoy her senior days. This evaluation/diagnosis means that BUBBLES will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

4. THE CHEESE KITTIES - These little ones need placement for medical reasons, several kittens in their litter tested positive for panleukopenia and declined rapidly while in care. They have been active and generally eating well, but they need continued monitoring and feedings during the panleukopenia quarantine period that are beyond that scope of what's possible in care. They need more care than we can provide. This evaluation/diagnosis means that these little ones will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Anybody can be a rescuer! Today we received dozens of requests to help this very sick and injured street cat in Riverdale, the Bronx. He had a badly ruptured eye globe and could not walk. He was cold and lying in his own urine. A very Good Samaritan raced over to the scene.

I believe Benji was taken from his mother when he was only 2-3 weeks old. He never learned to purr. Then, he was horrendously abused. When he found me, all his claws had been clipped far below the quick. They must have held him down while he screamed and bled profusely. Then, they threw him away in the middle of the night without his first line of defense when he was 7.5 months old. Poor baby!

We worked so hard on his trauma for 16 months. He now reverts to a very babyish state where I hold him as his mother did. He remembers the safety of those early weeks and dozes off making suckling sounds. I watched videos of mothers with baby kittens and tried my best to mimic the positioning and grooming with my hands.

Last night, we had a huge breakthrough. He got past the stage of warming up his laryngeal muscles to allow the purring vibration to begin and he actually let out a little purr.

Then today, he did it again while making a suckling motion with his mouth. He’s associating my love with the memory of being a little baby suckling on his mummy when he was just learning to purr. He’s feeling really really safe.

But doesn’t have enough repetition of purring yet to keep it going but I believe we will soon get there. He’s right on the verge of a breakthrough.

I can’t wait until the moment he actually purrs. I know I will cry my eyes out.

Thank God He sent this little boy to me! Benji needed someone who understood trauma.

God sent 2 boxes of kitten food 6 hours before He sent Benji — a mistake in a Walmart delivery. Walmart told me to keep it or donate it. I couldn’t feed it to Rikki as it’s high in phosphorus so I planned to call a shelter. But then … 6 hours later, the kitten it was intended for was also sent by God. No one can tell me God didn’t send me this adorable little boy.

I think of the sweet little terrified boy hiding in a bush for an hour listening to my voice as I talked to a friend in the middle of the night on my patio. Something in my voice told him I would help him. As I got up to come inside, Benji finally got the courage to meow and run to me, shaking. He’d never have survived outside without his claws. In that moment, God inspired him to take a chance on me, even though so many humans let him down before. And since God already sent me the food, I was ready.

I am looking for a home with a patient person. Hi, my name is Eklips and the shelter has been a little overwhelming for me. I came from a home with many cats, who I've gotten along with well. Because I've lived in this home my entire life and have only been around one person, I have little experience with people and am hesitant of new experiences. I would enjoy living in a quiet home, preferably one with lots of vertical space so I have a place to perch and observe the room. I would also appreciate having experienced, patient adopter(s) who are willing to take things slow with me. I would benefit from socialization, using rewards whenever I make a small positive step like making eye contact, allowing petting, or sniffing your hand. I'd prefer to take things at my own pace and would appreciate some good old fashion TLC. I managed to give the cats some leftovers and pieces of bread, and for now they have something in their stomachs.

But this is not a solution.
It is only a way to survive one more night.

Tomorrow, I will go to the food supplier and try to negotiate for a month's supply of food for these rescued animals.

I do not know how much he will agree to give me.
I do not know how much I will still owe.
I only know that dozens of innocent lives depend on what happens next.

Every bowl I fill is a promise.
Every hungry face is a responsibility.
And every day without support brings us closer to a moment I fear deeply.

These animals have already survived war, hunger, and abandonment.

They should not have to fight hunger again.

My foster writes: Callie is one of the sweetest cats we've had the pleasure of caring for. We as fosters are always saying that she is going to be some lucky person's BEST friend. She loves attention from her favorite humans so much; she loves to cuddle, get pets and forehead kisses, and have little conversations (she has a very cute and funny range of meows!) Her purr is so quiet but you will definitely feel it while she relaxes in your lap for hours each day. When she's happy or excited, her tail puffs up. She loves churu treats and playing with wand toys too, but not nearly as much as she loves just hanging out with you on your lap or as a neat little loaf nearby. She is shy at first and sensitive, but she always pushes herself out of her comfort zone to show and receive affection. It's very heartwarming! At first she was ALWAYS in my lap but as she's gotten more confident she's been exploring our apartment and wanting to play more (that being said, she still wants to sit in my lap for hours each day!) She's also fine with getting her nails trimmed, which is great, because she loves to make powerful grippy biscuits on whatever surface she's blissing out on, including your lap. She would be a fantastic cat for someone seeking a little best friend who will give your love back to you tenfold. Reach out to learn more about this special girl! ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻
