While XBB1.16 is currently circulating widely in India, they haven't seen an increase in hospitalization so there is no reason for alarm in the US. But there may be an uptick in cases here over the next couple of months. Hopefully, cases remain mild and our immunity wall endures.

UPDATE: In the region including NY State, older XBB variants circulating since December are about 4/5 of cases. Newer XBB variants comprise 1/5 and growing. XBB 1.16 = 9% of new cases in the region (vs 5% last week). XBB 1.9.1 = 6%, and a few others are also gaining steam.
