BREAKING: In a rare moment of blessed sanity, the U.S. Supreme Court declines a desperate right-wing request to block the assault weapons ban that was recently passed in Illinois.

Unfortunately, the decision does not guarantee that the ban will remain in place long-term, rather it indicates that the court has no desire to wade into such a high-profile Second Amendment case right now.

The block request came from gun nuts who wanted the new law to be put on hold while the appeals process plays out in the lower courts — a process that could ultimately lead to the ban being overturned.

Once again, we see that Republicans only care about "states' rights" when it suits their agenda. Illinois has a right to ban weapons of war but the GOP simply can't stomach that. Their NRA donors won't allow it.
