@WallaceSmitty@GreatDayTarHeel@Jordonbella Could you argue the other way? Pablo picking on the gf of a coach who’s had tremendous success and now coaching a team with minor bowl aspirations?
@901Bo_ @ptak_attack17 Hunter deserved it last year. 2 way player with fantastic stats on both side. He was the quintessential Heisman winner, but, yes! I’d love an actual defensive player who had the year of years of consistent experience and is having the best year in defensive player history
@901Bo_ @ptak_attack17 Every team does this though. Mendoza at IU is in for an extra series or two to pad stats… 35 total TDs in games that 80% are blowouts… if Tech wants to give Rodriguez the ball on a GL situation to score, do it. It’s part of the game to get votes. That TD probably helps his case
@901Bo_ @ptak_attack17 Heisman is a total joke. It’s the Davey O’Brien 2.0. I get where you’re coming from, and I haven’t seen that argument on my TL. I don’t think he wins, despite having a generational year. A lot of defensive players go under the radar because of great offensive performances
@ptak_attack17 @901Bo_ Great point. Suh had a phenomenal ‘09 season with 12 sacks as an interior DL. For him to finish 4th, behind Ingram, Gerhart, and McCoy, fair. But then you look at Woodson that won in ‘97 over Peyton Manning. With 7 INT and no TDs. Rodriguez earns a conversation for the Heisman
@901Bo_ @ptak_attack17 My question is why is that? I think Jacob Rodriguez is the best player in college. Statistically, he leads most defensive categories, but since he’s a defensive player, he probably won’t win. So, giving him an offensive TD, I don’t have an issue. That’s how you get on the ballet
@901Bo_ @ptak_attack17 That’s not a fair argument. I don’t think Tech was insinuating the “he was a backup QB” narrative. If we’re gonna call it what it is, the Heisman has been won by a QB/RB/WR since 1998. Woodson won it over Peyton Manning and Randy Moss in ‘97. He was the last defensive player
@BIGFATBETSS@insidenu I agree with your latter two points. More so, point one vs point two because we’ve seen Stone successful in other offenses… however, disagree with your Braun take. He’s doing a great job. For what is expected of NU, he’s exceeded. I’m a Fitz guy, and Braun’s record says it all.
@901Bo_ @ptak_attack17 Giving a defensive player an offensive stat to “pad stats” for a traditionally offensive award. I’m fine with it. Last I checked, the Heisman is for the best player, not the best QB/RB/WR
@FightOnRusty@WildcatReport Got it. That was the initial question. There should have been a penalty called on the actual punter when they took the field. Again, not that any of it would have mattered. The outcome would have been the same
@FightOnRusty@WildcatReport But the check in has to be announced for eligibility reasons. It’s the same thing that happened in the Dallas/Detroit game last year. #70 lines up as an eligible receiver an it was announced so both teams were aware. I don’t believe it was announced during that game
@FightOnRusty@WildcatReport Totally, but you have to have rosters and numbers set the week of. That I do believe is a rule. Unless there’s a jersey that’s torn, the jersey that’s on the program and reports do that week needs to be the jersey you play the game in.
@FightOnRusty@WildcatReport But wouldn’t that mean when the punter came out it should have been? Legit question. Not meant as an argument. I don’t think it would have affected the outcome either way, but generally curious
