BREAKING: @phivolcs_dost upgraded the scale of the earthquake in Mindanao this Monday morning to Magnitude 7.8 — becoming the largest earthquake in the Philippines of the 21st century, surpassing the M7.6 earthquakes of 2012 in Eastern Visayas and 2023 in the eastern Mindanao.

It now also ties for the fourth-largest earthquake in the country since the beginning of reliable records. The other earthquakes with the same magnitude occurred during the 1911 Mindanao earthquake, 1948 Panay earthquake, and the infamous 1990 Luzon earthquake.

WATCH: Palace press officer Claire Castro told Senator Alan Peter Cayetano not to play the “victim card” in the Senate leadership change.

In a briefing, Castro said the tensions hounding the institution all happened under Cayetano’s watch.

The palace official was responding to Cayetano’s earlier remarks that Senator Win Gatchalian should not allow himself to be used by Malacañang.

Castro also had a message for the public.
