Returning to the Call of Duty
For many service members, the call to serve their country is more than just a career choice—it is a lifelong vocation. Recent reinstatement efforts by the @DeptofWar are bringing dedicated Warriors of Conscience back into the formation after periods of unlawful discharge, restoring not just their careers, but their sense of purpose.

The journey back has not been easy for these families as SSG Brett Bender and his family can attest. The sudden separation from the military community often brought unforeseen hardships. SSG Bender shared, “Being unlawfully discharged put a huge amount of stress on our family: homelessness, financial issues, and doubting whether I really was called to serve.”

However, the tide turned when the @USArmy COVID R2TF Chief reached out to Bender to begin the reinstatement process. “When Colonel @KevinBouren reached out about being reinstated, it was a direct answer to prayer,” Bender continued. “I have long felt called by the Lord to serve the men and women who serve our country, and I do not take the opportunity to return to that noble profession lightly. Being reinstated is further confirmation that though ‘the heart of man plans his way... the Lord establishes his steps.’”

This sentiment of renewed purpose is echoing across the force. Brett Bender, a 68W Combat Medic who was officially reinstated on March 10, 2026, is another testament to this enduring commitment. After navigating his own time away from the uniform, the Bender Family is currently preparing to head overseas, ready to serve our Nation once again.

“I am excited to continue my career and encouraged to once again be given the opportunity to serve my country and my fellow soldiers,” Bender emphasized.

We reinstated SSG Bender with full relief to include backpay, backdated promotion to E6, entitlements, benefits, MOS & duty station of choice, and constructive service credit. Welcome back, Doc!

Proud to welcome back another brave warrior who was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, Brett Bender.

Sergeant Bender, a 68W Combat Medic, was involuntarily separated in July 2022, leading to significant hardship for him and his family. With support from the @USArmy COVID-19 Reinstatement & Reconciliation Task Force - and under the leadership of @SecWar and @SecArmy - he was reinstated in March 2026 with full relief, including backpay, a backdated promotion to E-6, MOS & duty station preference, entitlements, benefits, and constructive service credit. Now, Staff Sergeant Bender and his family are preparing to head overseas for his next assignment.
