in like 10th grade or so I said “salmon” (pronouncing the L) out loud and got corrected ”it’s pronounced sammon”

today I told my dad this story and it blew his mind — “it’s pronounced without the L????”

so we googled it

let’s talk about why salmon is pronounced no L in English

my parents being filipino, they say it how it’d be pronounced in Spanish

I grew up hearing it that way, spelled that way, + pretty much ignored every time I heard someone say it “sammon”, assuming it was just one of those English words with regional variations in pronunciation
