@implausibleblog Christ on a bike; we need to be clear about what rich means. Rich is not £100k wage earners. £100k - £200k earners are already taxed beyond any sense. They don’t have options to live abroad or “move their assets”.
£300k+, or with assets > a £1m house and an ISA maybe.

@implausibleblog And to be clear, the top 3% includes the £100k earners. It’s the top 0.5% that would make the difference if taxed sensibly above current levels, but manage their affairs to minimise the tax.

Nobody on the wards (which are closed to all visitors) will say anything, makes me think they’re hiding something.

Giving social care to be run by the NHS…. Disaster waiting to happen. NHS basic carer salary rates are 50%higher than social care worker rates…. Instant bankruptcy for the UK. No credibility in the NHS to run services either. #bbcqt

@emjayluz That’s not my experience. NHS frequently wades in with short term cash that distorts the provider market, then dumps the issue on councils. I’ve seen (>once) 1st hand how NHS cannot handle means tested services - catastrophic budget mess and poor service management

@emjayluz In principle yes, paying more would attract or retain more staff. The point I was making was that the cost is prohibitive and actually, the NHS really doesn’t understand social care - the premise of care is totally different and ‘prescription’ would increase cost even further

Nail hit firmly on the head Lord Victor - funding stripped from local government has demolished salaries in social care provision. Councils have no choice to pay rates that allow for appropriate salaries, so carers go to supermarket and hospitality jobs that pay more #bbcqt
