In that election, Hamas won 44% of the vote, which gave them 74 seats in the Legislative Council and the ability to form a government. People voted for Hamas as a political party, not as a militia. They were promised reform and change, not rockets and endless destruction.

Half of Gaza’s population today are children who weren’t even born at the time, and most of the rest were not eligible to vote.

To excuse massacres against civilians by pointing to an election that happened 19 years ago is not only stupid — it’s a vile attempt to strip Palestinians of their humanity and blame them for their own suffering.

Having said that people still wrongly refer to HCAs as carers. Roles have evolved - RNs have taken on doctor’s skills, HCAs have taken on nurse’s, carers HCA’s.

District nursing isn’t ‘more care work’ - I know I work in it.
