@camila_b12_ I like how you emphasize that the public must act because I think any major change will have to result from mass public outrage and mass public pressure on schools and government/politicians #eng105
@HilaryMborja I especially enjoy how you incentivize getting good grades with more financial support. So often it feels like there is not enough reason to strive for all As and Bs and to try your best in Uni, but doing this awards students with money and schools with great students #eng105
"Everything I want, I gotta wait a year, I wait a year" - Kanye West. I agree. Even this year I tried signing up for different classes, but couldn't b/c I hadn't taken certain classes. College can be very unsatisfying b/c of pre reqs and rigid curriculum. #eng105
I think the film somewhat clearly highlights the importance of voting; specifically, knowing who you're voting for, what they favor/what their priorities are, and most importantly: who funds them. #eng105
@melany_zorrilla I liked the format. Kept things feeling fresh. Also showed the duality of University: everyone, including those who didn't deserve it, got a LOR. The issue is, a lot of these LORs weren't based on merit, and Uni can be a place to prop up those who both do and do not try. #eng105
@HuongLam001 I think part of J's goal was to merge the English major world with that of a forest ranger's. At first, these may seem completely unrelated, and J's knowledge of birds displays that, but he goes on to show how the applicant's English b.a. is beneficial to the rangers #eng105
@melany_zorrilla I definitely think he believes in giving some people opportunity, but as we see with his ex wife when he sabotages her by insulting the place she's applying to, perhaps he doesn't believe in giving everyone every opportunity #eng105
179 J talks of lying for Troy to get him an opportunity, but what about those without connections? How does one progress with no connections "of value"? are some people, like Browles, doomed? Or almost guaranteed to be doomed? #eng105
170 "His novel was not very good" what does one do with a person like Browles? The one thing that made him content (seemingly) was his writing, but he was no good at it. For those with limited values like Browles, how do you bring contentment if those values are fleeting? #eng105
Glad to hear from you, and thank you again for recommending Mr. White. Although not of a typical background as most of our students here at the seminary, I am sure he will prove to be an invaluable student here at our school.
Sincerely,
Reverend W.T. Dap

Dear Professor Fitger,
First off, I would just like to thank you for recommending Dennis White. We here at Emmanuel Lutheran Seminary sincerely appreciate it. You are quite right to suggest that the qualities you emplace upon Mr. White are quite #eng105
At the very least, it is quite interesting that we share the same values -at least concerning these qualities- yet have entirely different systems of faith.
I would love to continue this conversation, perhaps at the seminary or someplace in the middle?

SOLUTION: I see a curriculum change as a potential partial (not complete) solution to these problems. Specifically, I think removing non-major-specific required classes and enforcing a "free period" class every semester would pacify these problems. (More info in essay) #eng105
My topic is going to explore the curriculum of the university, and, depending on what I find, the potential to change and evolve the work students engage in.#eng105
From Christopher Newfield's The "Price of Privatization": "students are paying more tuition and taking on more debt to get something out of college." #eng105
P. 80-82. J writes LOR for student who he failed (which I'm guessing isn't typical in a LOR), and this reveals how merit alone doesn't define a student's success in and out of University, and Browles is an ex of that - great student, but uni is struggling to help him #eng105
@MaggieArana5 I feel that same fear. Of course, rising tuition costs only add to that fear, so when mixing the need for a career (to pay off these costs) and the fear of not getting one, one's CLA edu. warps with anxiety & financial distractions & stress, thereby harming the edu. #eng105
