@CBCNews Yes, I’m sure he’s going to enforce this against the Mafiosi who are coordinating the large-scale car theft and export ops. Poillievre is either naïve, stupid, or both.
@CupeNL While I agree that your members should be doing the work instead of private contractors, asking for overtime hours/pay seems a little greedy when these people literally can’t afford to eat.
@GeoffBudden@dalegkirby There’s limited evidence from St. John’s specifically, but the data from other North American and European urban areas (including those with adverse weather and hilly terrain) has been consistent on this subject.
@GeoffBudden@dalegkirby Chicken and egg. As we have seen with other cycling infrastructure projects in St. John’s, such as the Quidi Vidi Pump Track, if we build it, they will come. The principal reason cited by individuals for not cycling in urban areas is fear of motor vehicle collisions.
@Gasholiver@GeoffBudden Do you know what the many don’t have? Cars. You know what they can afford to get them to work? Bikes. Know why they won’t ride bikes? Because the roads are dangerous. Active transport infrastructure can improve economic outcomes.
@GeoffBudden@dalegkirby You think cycling is *only* a hobby? I commute by bike to work over 200 days a year. There are many people (many of whom who also own cars) who prefer to use active transport because of the health benefits and cost savings.
@dmay001@FureyAndrew@GovNL What is the demographic overlap of people who actually respond to quality of life surveys and the labourers he’s trying to attract?
Looking at the latest NL household data for 2022, we find that for every $ spent on food in stores, an additional sixty-five cents went to food and beverage establishments. A further fifty cents was spent on alcohol and tobacco. #nlpoli
Listening to discussion of health benefits of even small bits of exercise on @sjmorningshow + the challenge of fitting it into the day. Know what makes it easy and cheap to fit in? Active transportation. Let's make #YYT a walking, biking, and otherwise human-powered-transit city.
@SteveCallahan22 Or, ensure that as an athlete they’re performing optimally during training sessions. Excess effort before a workout will compromise the quality of the effort, and afterwards will delay recovery, compromising physiological adaptation.
@gigglesNsmile@sarahbartlett17 You know, cars could merge to the centre lane, slowing the flow of traffic, which is the whole fucking point of a construction zone
@rgwhitaker@mark_bennett95 Would have been wonderful if the designers had the forethought to build a parallel MUP along the Outer Ring and Gushue serving as an active transit loop of the outskirts of the city
@FureyAndrew More stringent licensing requirements, harsher penalties for dangerous, distracted, and otherwise irresponsible driving, and better infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists, and those using mobility aids
@Navaldeep1602@TPS_BikeHart@ParkingTPS There’s plenty of parking all over the place. What you mean to say is that there’s no free or convenient parking.
