The Turkish Navy, operating with the Somali National Army, has freed the MV LATUF, the vessel seized by pirates off Jifle near Eyl in Nugaal region on 17 August, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The Ministry said the operation ran for ten days, that four boats used by the pirates were destroyed and fourteen of them killed, and that sustained pressure eventually forced the remainder to abandon the ship. Forces have taken full control of the vessel, which is continuing its voyage safely. The Ministry said the operation was carried out under the defence cooperation agreement between Somalia and Türkiye.
