As clearly shown in this court order, the Banadir Regional Court ordered the immediate release of six young activists who had been illegally detained for two weeks. The court explicitly confirmed that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute them. Yet, in a blatant assault on the rule of law, the Commander of the Banadir Regional Police, Moalim Mahdi, reportedly rejected the court’s ruling and instructed police officers not to release the youths.
These young citizens were imprisoned for one reason only: speaking out against injustice, unfairness, and abuse of power. This is undeniable evidence that Somalia’s courts are being reduced to powerless symbols, stripped of authority and dignity, when security officials can openly defy judicial rulings without consequence.
A country where a police commander places himself above the courts, where lawful orders are ignored, and where young people are jailed for expressing dissent, is not governed by constitutional order or rule of law. It is governed by intimidation, coercion, and the arbitrary use of power.

Expired mandate, Posing for photo-ops, extending official recognition to him as a sitting president. Turkey is actively inserting itself into Somalia’s constitutional crisis by signaling who it backs none other than the former President.

The Turkish government’s decision to publicly reaffirm support for @HassanSMohamud immediately after the expiration of his constitutional mandate, at a moment when Somalia faces a contested political transition and no agreed electoral framework, sends a deeply troubling political signal.
Somalis have long valued the historic relationship with Türkiye, built on solidarity and mutual respect. That relationship must remain anchored in support for the Somali people, constitutional governance, and inclusive political consensus, not personalized alignment with a single political figure during a fragile and contested transition.
Somalia’s stability cannot be sustained through external endorsement of expired mandates or concentration of power. Durable peace and stability require legitimacy, broad political agreement, accountable institutions, and public trust.
Former President, Hassan Sheikh’s latest letter is a textbook deflection — blame the opposition, dodge responsibility, repeat. The breakdown didn’t happen in a vacuum wholly orchestrated by the president. Somalians can see through the spin. #Somalia#Politics
When Somali Americans were accused of fraud in Minnesota, there was endless discourse about what it supposedly revealed about Somali and Muslim culture.
Will those who led that discussion do the same for this massive fraud ring and the monolithic group the FBI just arrested?👇

A Gadabuursi clan leader from Awdal who was actively courted by Turkey and Somalia to fragment Somaliland, create a breakaway "Awdal State" in western Somaliland has returned to Hargeisa's fold.
Suldan Abubakar Wabar Elmi today met top Somaliland officials and signalled his desire to support reconciliation and unity in Somaliland.
Farah Abdiqadir, the thought leader of HSM's Muslim Brotherhood wing, has said that they intend to stay on in power for 1 or even 2 more years after 15 May.
These losers have not learned from their humiliation in 2017, and what happened in Mogadishu in 2021
I had the honor of attending, alongside the President of PL H.E. Said Dani the official inauguration of the Shuhaaddada Stadium in Bosaso, as well as the launch of the inaugural Shuhaaddada Tournament, which brings together teams representing the capitals of Puntland’s 9 regions
A revealing moment in the GeedFadhi interview with the ousted South West leader is his description of the political economy around UN contracts. He points to a widely reported pattern in which President @HassanSMohamud allegedly directly intervenes on behalf of his son and immediate family, using state institutions to cancel competitors’ licenses.
While such claims have circulated for years among Somali actors, Laftagareen’s account brings this aspect to light in a way that is difficult to ignore. @SherifAbdinur@AbdikarimAKaar@UNTMIS_

BREAKING NEWS: Turkey will grant Somalia 30 million dollars. The grant will be paid in installments of 2.5 million dollars.
Interestingly, right after that, Somalia placed an order for drones from Turkey—specifically from a company owned by Erdoğan’s son-in-law.
A complete cycle of corruption.
I posted a report on 19 April about Turkey sending 25 million dollars to Somalia to help HSM consolidate his term extension/ win future polls.
Turkish opposition and media outlets now confirms a sum of USD 30 million has been authorised to Somalia and the official gazette notice on this signed by President Erdogan.
Somali government has not responded to the report.
Sending millions of dollars on a special flight, weeks before a government's end of term is unusual, very dubious.
I join Amnesty International in calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Sadia Moalim Ali. Arresting a citizen without charges for peaceful expression is not security—it is a dangerous drift toward arbitrary power.
If we normalize detention without charge, we weaken the state we claim to build. Legitimacy comes from justice, not fear.
