In August 2025 I formally notified the Texas House Committee on General Investigating and the Speaker of the House. I provided detailed information showing that while serving as a House member and sitting on the Public Education Committee, Talarico received payments from a consulting firm that collected millions of taxpayer dollars from the Texas Education Agency. Was Talarico using his position on the House Public Education Committee to steer or advocate for those dollars?

His 2022 Personal Financial Statement listed employment with Maya Consulting. The following year he revised it to “Self – Education Consultant.” Maya Consulting did not just take millions from TEA. It also received millions more from other taxpayer-funded sources, including school districts and the Communities Foundation of Texas.

I am not a lawyer, and every person is innocent until proven guilty. But the Texas House has a duty to ensure its members are not profiting from the legislation they shape.

K-12 education is one of the largest expenditures in the entire Texas budget. The idea that a House member could benefit while teachers and students struggle in under-resourced classrooms is appalling. This demands a full investigation and a public report.

I have followed Talarico since 2018. In all that time he has never mentioned a real job or any other employment. What does Talarico do for a living? How does he live in Austin on a few hundred dollars a month? Who is paying him?
