10 Important things from Week 1 of NBA SZN

1) Mobley is being used as an offensive hub

Donovan Mitchell is still the engine for the Cavs, but Mobley is being given more and more responsibility. Running more post-ups and even taking the ball up the floor on some occasions.

2) Lamelo is still Lamelo but they are winning

Lamelo is averaging 28/8/10 and Charlotte is 2-1. Those wins are against the Nets and Wizards, but the vibe in Charlotte just looks different right now.

3) Devin Booker is an odd watch right now

Devin Booker is averaging 5.0 turnovers per game so far. A lot of issues passing out of shots he shouldn't with a team that has a lot of new faces on the court. Either the spacing is going to get better and he's going to average like 10 assists per game, or he is just going to start shooting everything.

4) I have never felt as bad for a fanbase as I do the Mavericks.

First problem: D'Angelo Russell is their only playmaking guard.

Second problem: They don't play D'Angelo Russell consistently.

Third Problem: A team that relies on size has all their actual Centers injured right now.

Fourth Problem: A team that decided to go "win-now" by going all-in on defense, is 1-3 with the 3rd most points in the paint per game allowed.

Nobody thinks of Spoelstra coaching a team that would be high paced. But through week 1, Miami has ranked at the highest pace in the NBA. Their pace so far (109.67) would have BLOWN OUT the highest paced team last season (103)

8) The Rockets issues were predictable

No guards. No Shooting. No Identity. KD and Sengun due their all-star type buckets, and Amen Thompson has had his moments, but for a full 48 minutes, they need more of a possession-by-possession flow.

It will come. It is a long season. But right now, they are not the dominant team that we expected an upgraded 2nd overall seed from last year to look.

9) Spurs offensive looks exactly as it should

The offense is going through Wemby, and he is not settling. 3-Point attempt rate is down but there is nobody that can stop him from getting to the rim either.

Combine that with Dylan Harper/Kornet coming off the bench, playing their roles as if they've been on this team for years and Stephon Castle looking very comfortable getting a bucket in whatever way the defense lets him

Oh yeah... DeAaron Fox has not played yet either.

10) Magic do NOT look like they should

It is not just Bane/Franz/Paolo getting their chemistry figured out.

The defense has legitimately not been good, which is just about the only thing that nobody thought would be an issue.

The shooting remains a huge issue despite adding shooters and floor spacers in the off season.

Paolo is STILL settling for poor quality shots.

There is a lot of time so no panic button just yet, but it appears we don't get to see the big jump we expected to see from that squad coming in
