आँवला नवमी के दिन आँवले के वृक्ष का पूजन सत्कार क्योंकि आँवला सृष्टि में आदि वृक्ष है और आँवले का पूजन, आँवले की प्रदक्षिणा और आँवले के नीचे बैठकर भोजन करने से दो गाय दान करने का फल लिखा है शास्त्र में । आँवले के वृक्ष का दर्शन करने से एक गोदान का फल, उस वृक्ष के नीचे बैठने से दो गोदान करने का फल होता है। आँवले का सत्कार पूजन इसलिए कि भगवान को यह आदि वृक्ष प्रिय है च्यवन ऋषि तो इसी आँवले के प्रयोग से बुढ़ापे में से जवानी के तरफ लोटे । तो आँवला नए कण ऐसे बनाता है कि बुड्ढे में से भी जवान आदमी हो जाए ऐसी जीवनीशक्ति देता है । तो अष्टमी को गाय का पूजन और आँवला नवमी को आँवले का पूजन ।
