धनबाद की एक और जगह, कोयले की ख़ानों के आस-पास बसी बस्तियाँ इसी तरह रहती हैं। डंपर वाले को थोड़े बहुत पैसे देकर कोयला गिराते हैं, फिर उसे फुटकर में बेचते ��ैं। ग़रीबी की वजह से मूलभूत सुविधाओं से ये लोग इतने दूर हैं कि रोज़ाना कुछ कमा पाना ही इनका दीर्घकालिक लक्ष्य बन जाता है।

मध्य प्रदेश के अलीराजपुर के पेरियातर गाँव गई तो कुछ लोग मिले, जिनमें एक हैं ये दादी। ज़िंदगी का संघर्ष बाँटने के लिए उनके पास कोई नहीं। जागरूकता की कमी, असमर्थता इतनी कि बन��� हुए काम भी अधूरे रह जाते हैं। सरकारी योजनाओं का लाभ जहाँ सबसे पहले पहुँचना चाहिए, बहुत देर से पहुँचता है।
