Geographically, Israel is in a profoundly weak strategic position. At its widest point, it is only 71 miles (114 kilometers) across; at its narrowest point, it is only nine miles across. Israel has no defensive space. It has little ability to withdraw, regroup and counterattack. Defensive depth is essential to national security. It determines how much time there is to recover from an initial attack. Space and time are essential to war.

Ignoring the emergence of drones, Israel cannot tolerate a defeat at its border, because a defeat would give it, at most, 71 miles in which to retreat. From this flows a specific military logic. Israel has to prevent attacks by initiating combat, and it has to be able to defeat its enemy early in a war. For Israeli leaders, it follows that the Israel Defense Forces always have to be significantly more powerful than potential enemies. The idea that Israel would never face a force more powerful than its own has always been improbable. During the 1973 attack by Egypt and Syria (which were armed and coordinated by the Soviet Union), Israel came perilously close to disaster. It was saved by the fact that Egyptian, Syrian and Soviet planners had failed to anticipate their dramatic early successes and had no plans to fully defeat Israel and seize its land.

Probably the best thing I did to accelerate my rate of learning after my mid-30s was to drop hierarchical thinking when choosing who to learn from. Easily 10x’ed my rate of learning.

I have since realized that, for talented high achievers, hierarchical thinking is the biggest barrier to mastery of their craft.

Most people don’t consciously think about it, but it’s always there.

They decide who is worthy to learn from and who isn’t.

They only learn from people they “look up to”.

And your look-up-to group shrinks in size as you achieve more success yourself, so you deprive yourself of the great opportunity available to you: you can learn from everyone, literally everyone.

Contrary to some beliefs and some (flawed) intuitions, learning like this
- does not take huge effort
- cultivates greater critical thinking
- feels better than hierarchical learning
- can take you to mastery much faster

It does require though that you confront your ego and quiet it a little, not for spiritual or moral reasons, but solely for the purely practical, capitalistic pursuit of your greater goals.

This sounds simple, but few can do it.

The ability to do this cannot be given to you.

Only thing that can be given to you is the pointer to what is truly going on. The rest is up to you.

Microsoft Bans Claude Code After AI Costs More Than The Humans It Replaced

Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands), Argentina.

Cueva de las Manos is one of the most significant rock art sites in Argentine Patagonia. It's located in the Río Pinturas Canyon, in the Santa Cruz province.

Although its name suggests a single cave, the site is actually a vast rock art complex extending across rock shelters, natural walls, and overhangs, alongside the cave itself.

The sequence of rock art here spans a long period, dating from about 9,300 to 1,300 years ago.

Most of the hand stencils at the site are left hands. That's because the people spraying the pigment would hold a tube or a hollow bone in their right hand while pressing their left hand against the rock.

Most of these hands were made using a negative stencil technique. In this method, the person places their hand against the rock and sprays mineral pigment around it; when the hand is pulled away, a hand-shaped, usually light-colored blank space is left on the wall.
The colors are really impressive.

But how did people back then get these colors?

Red and purple tones came from iron oxides, white from kaolin, yellow from natrojarosite, and black from manganese oxide. The pigments were ground up, mixed with a binder, and applied to the rock. So, these rock paintings are also a product of material knowledge and technical skill.

Thanks to factors like low humidity and a lack of water seepage, the rock paintings- except for the most exposed ones -have been preserved to this day.
