Respectfully, I disagree. Trent was unmoved because of Taco’s logical inconsistencies. Trent asked him plainly how can he be saved. What must he do to go to heaven.

From Trent’s perspective, Taco might not be saved based on the content he regularly posts or at best, he considers Taco probably saved but bottom of the barrel theologian aficionado.

Trent is well versed on Calvinism and predestination, so it was a trick question Taco failed to answer.

If you believe in predestination, the answer is there’s nothing you can do to be saved and go to heaven. Nothing at all. You are saved by no effort of your own, but as a byproduct of God’s sovereign decision before the foundation of the world.

Even if you can’t decide whether the new birth precedes faith or faith precedes the new birth, your salvation has nothing to do with you believing in the right Jesus or having the right theology.

Trent was unmoved by Taco’s self contradictory beliefs regarding salvation.

You can’t say you believe in predestination, meaning there is no personal will involved in salvation, but you must believe in the right Jesus, right doctrine on the divine nature, etc. You can’t do both.

Why?

Because if salvation depends on the correctness of your beliefs, it’s no longer a sovereign work of God. It’s all on your ability to blindly believe things you don’t understand.

Taco also said understanding of the right doctrine isn’t required. You must believe in the Trinity even if you don’t understand it. What???

The logical conclusion of predestination and Calvinism is that if you are saved, you will know why you believe what you believe because the Holy Spirit provides the illumination and understanding; those things are given to you by God.
