OPINION - Is Durgapur missing the IT bus??

Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 21.16 acres of land in Vizag to TCS.

TCS plans to invest 1370 cr in Vizag for setting up a "development centre" (completing in 2027) generating 12,000+ jobs.

The area where the TCS permanent campus is coming up had 32 acres of land available under corporation and still 9.5 acres of land is available after the allocation to TCS. Efforts are on to give the remaining space to other IT firms.

Another IT giant, Cognizant is also set to establish its permanent campus in Vizag. Good to know the seriousness of the state to attract IT along with developing secondary cities or non capital cities.

Durgapur was supposed to get an IT park in 2009 and even there were talks with Cognizant but all went flat.

In West Bengal, Kolkata means the entire Bengal and people are easy and happy in accepting such a narrative. Everywhere it is Kolkata and nothing else, even people are proud of identifying and associating themselves with Kolkata even if they are not from Kolkata (they somehow suffer from an inferiority complex in revealing their own birth city/town). Secondary cities are minnows, let alone other smaller ones.
