One of my all-time favorite type of videos is pre-fame bands playing their extremely famous songs to a tiny room of people, because they're not yet known.
A thread of some examples:
Bastille playing Pompeii in what looks like someone's living room:

@nwilliams030 Thank you for recommending it! Not the point you were making but, any other books you may recommend for people struggling with postpartum recovery?
Some day you’re going to look down and realize that the good old days are over. X will be like Facebook, your groupchats won’t be popping, and your phone will just feel different. Don’t let this time slip away. You need to increase your screen time now before it’s too late.
10 pieces of career advice I’ve gotten that work to the upside (get promoted quickly) and as downside protection (never get fired)
1. Your #1 job is to make your boss look great. (Almost) everything else is a distraction
2. Big careers are made by running toward the fire, not away from it (don’t attempt if your culture doesn’t reward risk-taking)
3. Bet on yourself. Give away your current job every six months
4. Nothing derails your career like getting divorced
5. Careers are not like public markets. Very low liquidity. You don’t get priced in real time. You can force re-pricing by changing companies, but you don't have unlimited pricing events.
6. A surprising amount of getting promoted is whether people enjoy solving problems with you
7. For the first 10 year of your career, stocks are a distraction. The ROI of getting those first ten years right for your lifetime earnings is much higher than anything you’d make in the market
8. Beyond a certain point, a successful career is a selfish pursuit. It’s ok for your career to be about making yourself happy. Pretending it’s for other people is the dangerous game
9. There’s no career accelerant like a smart boss who gives you tough feedback while providing air cover + support for you to figure it out after delivering the feedback. If you find it, hold on for dear life
10. Vulnerability id a strength, not a weakness.
jobs take 40 hours of your time. careers take 70. jobs are transactional—you clock in, do the work, clock out. careers colonize your thoughts, your identity, & your future.
once you prioritize a career, you’ll have less time for everything else in your life unless you’re really next level at life management.
