@Bare_Birk Nice that you are doing that publicly, I can totally relate to your sentence „I cant hide from a lazy decision“ 😅 Looking forward to it and wishing you all the best to reaching your goal!
My point was simply this: we’re humans. I still catch myself making emotional decisions. Markets just expose them immediately. They’ve taught me more about fear, conviction and ego than any book ever could. Learning to recognize those emotions is part of the game. That’s what I meant by my first comment.
People are missing the point on the $IREN x Warriors deal.
Yes, the timing was bad. Really bad.
Retail has been sitting here for weeks waiting for the next “big AI cloud deal” and instead IREN shows up like:
“Good news guys, we bought a spot on Steph Curry’s laundry.”
I get the frustration.
But I also think a lot of people still don’t understand what IREN is trying to become.
This company is still mentally stuck in the “Bitcoin miner” bucket for many investors. Miner. Hashrate. BTC beta. Energy arb. That image still sticks to them like old chewing gum.
But that is not the company they are trying to build anymore.
IREN wants to become a global AI cloud / AI infrastructure brand.
And for that, brand actually matters.
Not just for customers.
For contractors.
For partners.
For local communities.
For capital markets.
And especially for talent.
The best engineers, operators, enterprise sales people and AI infrastructure people don’t dream of joining “some bitcoin miner with GPUs.”
They want to join something that feels big, relevant and cool.
NVIDIA partner.
Microsoft contract.
AI cloud.
Global infrastructure.
Warriors jersey.
That’s a very different mental box.
So no, I don’t think the Warriors deal is some random vanity move.
I think it fits the bigger transformation.
My criticism is simple:
Do the sexy commercial deal first.
Then do the sexy jersey deal.
Give us Anthropic, xAI, Oracle, Meta, enterprise customers, whatever…
Then put the logo wherever you want. Jerseys, stadiums, hot dog stands, Steph’s toaster. I don’t care.
IREN has always been a little clumsy with sequencing and capital market communication.
But bad timing is not the same as bad strategy.
If you believe IREN is still just a miner, this deal looks ridiculous.
If you believe IREN is becoming a serious global AI cloud infrastructure company, this deal starts to make a lot more sense.
Next quarter matters a lot.
Not because of the jersey.
Because we need to see whether the internal financial reality is already changing faster than the market understands.
I still think the risk/reward is heavily skewed to the upside.
But Dan… next time maybe give us the hyperscaler deal before the basketball jersey.
Would make my blood pressure a lot happier.
IREN is building AI infrastructure at gigawatt scale. Becoming the provider customers think of first takes more than building it. It takes presence where decisions get made.
Our Golden State Warriors (@warriors) partnership brings us deeper into the Bay Area AI ecosystem: closer to the customers, partners and talent shaping what's next.
As we serve a widening base of enterprises, AI labs and startups, that presence is how IREN stays in the conversations that matter.
@PhotonBull Doing exactly the same. Added yesterday to $IREN and $ASTS. Will be adding today as well. Cash is getting less and less and I would like to have more Cash, but it is like it is.
Haha fair... you’re right. After the Feb earnings call I thought a deal was basically around the corner. We got NVIDIA, but I still expect something much bigger.
That “deal is close” feeling has been there all year and you can see people trying to front-run it in the PA. If it drops, sidelines likely miss the gap.
@Agrippa_Inv Great point. I completely agree. Branding matters, but timing isn’t always in management’s control. Thanks for adding that nuance.
By the way, I’ve been following you for a long time. Big fan of your work—always thoughtful, never sensational. Appreciate what you do.
