Is it an undiagnosed autism thing where you always feel alone even within a friendship group because you can sense that everyone else is 100 times closer to eachother than they are with you and you donāt get why no one ever wants to be closer friends with you?
no one talks about how draining it is when your mood constantly switches between "keep going, it will get better" and "i can't do this anymore, im about to give up." it's like living in emotional whiplash. one hour you're hopeful, the next you're spiraling
100% headcanon this like Jax doing that thing when youāre worried your friends donāt care about you so you donāt text first and then they never text you.
When my dad was in boot camp two teenage boys tried to kill themselves by drinking bleach and were caught. Thatās how bad the treatment was and guess what happened? They were paraded around and made fun of for being weak before being discharged with zero counseling for the trauma they experienced.
When my mom was in boot camp a girl literally had a mental breakdown over the verbal abuse and tried to hop the fucking fence on the base to escape in the middle of the night with nothing other than the clothes on her back. They were never told what happened to her other than she was caught.
Being verbally abused 24/7 doesnāt make you strong. It makes you numb and traumatized. Thereās a reason why so many vets end up alcoholics and drug addicts. They go through so much trauma and a lot of it happens before theyāre ever even deployed. Not sure whatās itās like now but back then mental health access was not a big thing in the military nor was it encouraged. If you were struggling with mental health then you were seen as weak and unworthy of serving.
Itās an incredibly fucked up system and in my opinion it is barbaric recruiting teenagers to go through that. Your brain is still developing at that age and it definitely isnāt capable of properly processing the intensity of the military.
Canāt recommend Full Metal Jacket enough if you want to understand what itās truly like for teens entering the military. There are consequences to grooming children into becoming killers with emotional suppression. They either go on to hurt others or they end up hurting themselves. Either way, the ones responsible for making them that way never face any consequences.
as someone whoās lost far too many friends, this is more right to the reality- dramatic final moments are rarer than youād think, whatās more common is not knowing itās your last message- being too busy to dig or press and then you hear about it later, once itās long since done
It's actually fantastic representation of a trans woman dealing with internalized transphobia and misogyny that leads her to committing. Not all representation is sunshine and rainbows. Jax is painfully good rep it's just not pretty rep, which is what you want.
Its not trying to make you feel bad or like her its simply showing you why she is the way she is. That conclusion is still your own. Thats the whole point
"I hate this character so I refuse to engage in the writing surrounding them" is such an anti intellectual & anti art mindset
The problem is so many of yall 1) canāt read 2) have no media literacy 3) have no empathy 4) canāt read 5) are constantly looking for problems to be mad about 6) canāt read 7) think of characters as real people and not storytelling devices
The finale focuses on Caine and Jax because it lays out the two possible ways someone with toxic tendencies can go about their lives. Jax remains stuck in a cycle of self-hatred and denial. Caine gains self-knowledge and begins the road to change. Neither are forgiven.
I absolutely fucking hate that queer related media needs to be "confirmed" first before it gets taken seriously. Kris being nb? Well toby hasn't confirmed it, Jax being trans? goose hasn't said anything. And even if it is confirmed it's "pandering" it "came out of nowhere" (1/2)
the "issue" with jax's character arc is that its ugly. its unpalatable, especially to mainstream performative mental health awareness. but worst of all, its realistic. and refusing to engage with a realistic story because you personally dislike the character is willfully ignorant
Idk how hot of a take this is but I wish more people acknowledged the Digital Circus as a show with a focus on its message where the characters are a means to convey that message instead of a FNAF-style puzzle box with a focus on the characters themselves.
