@pmje73 Kinda both by him… highest salary is from the big Bird Rights max deals but he signs shorter max deals to keep the optionality to change teams and/or sign again under a higher salary cap environment.
@Wexboy_Value Would the “moneyball” teams like Dortmund or Ajax be better businesses instead since they are developing and selling to the big spenders like MANU?
@Wexboy_Value Maybe the MLB is a better comparison because the no salary cap? I just struggle to see how the big footy guys make money… the dodgers Mets and yanks are all unprofitable according to Forbes. Why isn’t this the same dynamic?
@Wexboy_Value In the US we have lockouts every few years to bc players want more from owners but there’s only one MLB/NBA etc. With footy these guys can just go play in a different top flight league right?
@Wexboy_Value Appreciate the thoughtful responses. I get monetization potential but why does value accrue to the clubs and not the players? Don’t these clubs just keep paying more and more for talent and only getting worse w/ no cap.
@Wexboy_Value Don’t you think the salary cap in most US sports leagues plays into this? Hard to make profits as a big footy club when transfer fees keep skyrocketing. Why not something like Dortmund or Ajax who buy young kids train them up and sell them for a big profit.
