In 2016, we embarked in a journey to cover the ABC National Playoffs in Bloemfontein, we were the ONLY ones recording the matches then with a simple vision to gather data on the format of the tournament so we go back to our club, then @The_OrangeCity with a vision of promotion to the NFD, the 2017 playoffs were scheduled to be in Mthatha before the last minute change to East London.

In those playoffs in 2017, we voluntary recorded all the matches of the tournament, analysed and after the tournament we came up with a first of its kind Technical Study Report, which by the way, had recommendations to change the format of the tournament from 2 Groups of 4 & 5 to 3 Groups of 3 each, which totally eliminated the unfair advantage of a team that comes from a group of 4 as they had an extra day of rest and played 1 less game, meaning they went to the Final with an unfair advantage; credit to @SAFA_net for taking our recommendation and immediately implemented in 2018, the rest is history. This has increased competitiveness in this tournament and everyone has a chance till their last game, no more unfair advantage and match fixing.

We had a clear vision > promote Mthatha City in Mthatha the following year which unfortunately didn’t happen as we finished 3rd after the team finished 9th the previous season. The dream was to promote a Mthatha team in Mthatha but it sadly didn’t happen. When I heard the 2026 playoffs are in Mthatha and you made as a Champion of North West, I asked myself who writes such a script? What a story 🥹

Fast forward, when you took a decision to leave Tuks (NFD) and take a project in the ABC Motsepe, your vision was very clear and there was never a doubt. You said to me “Mate, let me go promote this Varsity, I need 2/3 years and with all the resources there, I think I can do it” and I immediately told him go for it, you can do it.

In June 2026, history is written in Mthatha Stadium, which was our home stadium with Mthatha City & you promote North West University in your home soil, this is special.
