@Rheumatoidman I reckon the wing inboard holes are for the fuel tanks. My dodgy reference is the Italeri 1/72 kit I'm working on. The holes are roughly where the wing fuel tanks would be located.

@AdamWatkinson1 I remember when I bought this set thinking I was conned. Subtle is an understatement and you're absolutely spot on with mixing/blending etc. I'm rediscovering brush painting, attempting less is more and blending colours to achieve some total variation etc. Fun but slow going!

@AdamWatkinson1 Three of them look identical! I do like LC paints, they're great for brush painting. And work well with Vallejo thinner and paints.
